Many women have colloid cysts on their thyroid gland. It is fairly common, and as a matter of a fact, I myself have a few of them. Colloid cysts are usually harmless, and are left alone unless they are disrupting the function of the gland.
After an ultrasound, it should be obvious whether or not there is a chance of it being cancer. The chance is small, but it does happen.
Are you having a biopsy of it?

Now a days the scar is hardly noticable..I know because I have one. I was so scared it would be ugly because I am so vain about my looks but its very thin and short. Personally I would not take any chances with the tumors. A needle biopsy is done quicky and they tell usually by that procedure. I had needle biospy done which showed the growth and then I had to have them go in and take out my entire thyroid. The needle biospy removes very little and you only feel a little pressure.
My wife has thyroid tumors for years. Every six months they check her blood and she get a Ultra sound of the thyroid. They are big tumors. She does not like the bipsoy at at all. She had it done and they did a bad job and did not get any tissue at all. They wanted to do it over and she said no no. She just going by the Ultra sound if they start get bigger she will have to do some thing. If it is cancer they take your thyroid out. I hope your is not cancer. We were told that of lot of them are not cancer. Keep going to your doctor and get it checked out. good luck
