worried about colon cancer possibility

Hello. I heard about your message board on www.colonoscopyforum.com. I am 30 years old, and I have a strong history of colon cancer in my family. My doctor says i need to have a colonoscopy, but I am scared that he will find something bad in there. The worry keeps me up at night, even though i don't really have any symptoms. What symptoms have you all experienced? What should i be looking for? Is the colonoscopy going to be scary? My doctor says I will be put into a type of medicated sleep for it. Does that mean it will not be painful? Thanks for your advice.

If you have family history of colon cancer and your doctor has ordered colonoscopy, please have one right away.  Colon cancer responds well to treatment and if you catch it early you can save yourself a LOT of misery.  The test does not hurt and you will be relaxed with plenty of medication.  Believe me, if there is something in your colon, the earlier you know about it the better.

I went to the doctor with symptoms (pain and bleeding) at age 46.  I am the fourth generation to have this.  My doctor said I should have had colonoscopy much earlier, because of my family history.

Have that test.  Its not painful and it can save your life.
