13 yr old cat always seems hungry

My adult cat who has always been healthy is starting to look thin and boney at the hips.  He eats 1 can wet food and unlimited dry food but always seems to be hungry, yet looks like he is losing some weight.  Can you help me figure out what is going on? He still acts like a young cat and plays and jumps.

I have a cat, TJ who is 14 and has lost wt and muscle mass over the last couple of yrs but he is still active and goes on walks with me.  I think a big part of it is natural aging but like Jade said, it could be some condition like hyperthyroidism.  TJ has gotten kind of bony in his hips but he was a super big cat in his prime. He seems to be fine otherwise.

I agree w/ Jade and Linda about this possibly being hyperthyroidism.  But, it's possible that it could be the start of kidney disease, too.

Definitely get some blood work done!  BOTH of these conditions are very manageable, and can give you some more fun, quality years w/ your baby!

Check also for worms.  Have the vet check a stool sample.

Hi Penny and welcome to the cat forum :)  Sorry to hear your kitty isn't doing well.  The first thing that comes to mind with the symptoms you describe is hyperthyroidism which is the most common endocrine (hormonal) disorder that affects cats.  Of course, this is only a guess.  I would suggest getting kitty to the vet for a complete blood work up.
