Our vet uses the 3 year vaccines, which Buff and Cooper received yesterday as she said they are now mature enough..
I so agree Pip and Melinda...we need more happy stories to keep all our spirits up...you two do an awesome job
Melinda....your kitties are both indoor and getting up in kitty years, IMO the vaccines are only adding to unnecessary stress, there are MANY Vets who agree after the first set of kitten vac's they should be protected for life, much like we are with ours...
I stopped Vaccinating my older kitties 6 years ago after they turned 5ish. they too are indoor only cats, except for brief strolls in the yard with a collar and leash, IMO repeated vaccinations every year are over kill.
I can later send you alot of documentation on these opinions....
Good morning Melinda;
It's good to write of our fur kids. I think the good stories are as important here as the pleas for advice.
Senior cats definitely have their set of concerns. Miss Teia will be 17 in December, but aside from her being skinny and one liver enzyme being a little high at her annual, she is doing quite well. Has already been Outside inspecting her bushes and such at the front and side of the house (I always accompany her on this patrol).
Anita has confirmed what I thought, Teia's put back on a little weight, which we will take as a good thing. Her back is not as bony as it was when she was less active.
Best of health to Sookie and Spike, you, too, because our fur pers need us. :D
Take care - Pip
Hey Pip.
It sounds as though the boys had fairly good checkups, even with Cooper's problems.
My babies, Sookie and Spike, had their exams last month. It is always a big production. First, just catching Sookie, who must be gotten first because she's so fast. Spike is what we call a "gallumper", a.k.a. a slow moving vehicle, he could weagr a little orange triangle on his rear end. Then it's both of them crying all the way there. This has been the routine for 10 years now.
Spike has dental problems so we pulse-dose him, which is giving him antibiotics twice daily 5 days in a row every month. Our vet is old school I'm happy to say otherwise he would've probably had more extractions. Seems that's what the newer vets are into.
Sookie has to have a pre-shot before her vaccines or she gets so nervous that she has something akin to an asthma attack. Those attacks she can also get by physical activity so I count each time she runs completely around the house and stop her usually at the 4th. Sometimes now she stops herself, she's learning. They are strictly indoors by the way.
Well, I evidentally needed to talk about my kids too. I love them both with all of my heart and soul and since they'll be 11 on April 4 I get very nervous.
Anyhow, here's blessings to your babies and mine and all of them. Take care, Pip.
Melinda
Buff is in tip top condition.
Both boys eyes, ears, coats and weight looked good. Temp was fine, too, though Coop[er was near high end of normal.
Cooper has a little bit of redness in his gums, and his stools are soft (but NOT runny), so Doc Bennett wants to do a stool exam before doing blood work.
He was a bit spooked by being in a carrier, in the car and voiced his opinion throughout most of the 4 mile drive to the clinic. So, she wants to lessen any more stress on him right away.
This afternoon, Buff and Cooper go to Doc Bennett for their annual well baby check.
Happy Gotcha Day to Buff and Cooper!!
