Cat Concussion

Our kitten knocked on the door and has uneven pupils. Both eyes respond to torchlight, but the injured eye(dilated eye) does not undilate fully. There are no signs of bone injury nor any swelling could be felt. Kitten did not respond or show any pain when we felt the different portions of her head and body. There was no increase in heart rate and breathing. There is no bleeding from the nose, but there seemed to be anal discharge due to a foul smell, but no liquid is excreting. Movement is 100% when treats are shown to her, she is able to run around and jump as per normal without any disorientation.

As if have read up on medical records, this seems to be non-emergency and non life-threatening, and it appears to be of good prognosis and recovery can be expected.

I would like to hear from experienced cat owners who also might have met this incident before. Would the kitten recover fully? If so how fast?

I agree with CML and Eve.  Your kitten obviously has a brain injury.  A concussion would NOT cause unequal pupils.  The unequal pupils are not a good sign.  I am glad that your cat is acting normally, but after some time the cat can show more symptoms.  That is what can happen with a head injury.

Please take your kitten to the vet as soon as possible.  Your vet needs to examine the cat and can give a steroid medication to cut down on brain swelling.  This needs to be done quickly before this injury starts causing more symptoms.

Hello there,

I agree with CML2014's comments and suggestions. Your kitty definitely
needs to be seen by an experienced and professional vet. Good luck
to both of you. Eve ( caregiver of Sammy the cat )

Hi,

So sorry to hear your little one ran into a door. I am not sure where you got your medical info or what symptom you investigated. If it was the head /eye injury, I would think they would not just tell you it would go away on it's own, nor would the fowl smell from babies butt.

Both should be checked out by a Vet , who needs to "see" and examine these conditions. My suggestion is to dismiss something you read and validate it by visiting your vet....but that's just me.

Please keep us informed !
Thanks, CML
