Hi Mary,
Perhaps the best thing to do is have you kit groomed regularly in a Lion cut. That is shave through the body leaving only the fur on the head and tail.
I suppose this would have to be don by the vet. It will grow back but during the growth period you can maintain the fur better?
Still trying ,I make headway with the mats and then she goes out and rolls around again ...lol not certain all of them will ever come out.
She is very willful and wont let me groom her much.
You can always take her to the vet. They can give her some tranquilizers or put her totally out with anesthetics to shave off the mats. I think it'll be too painful and stressful to try and comb the knots out.
Thank you guys , she is not a sociable cat and a groomer may not work . I will try the fatty acids .I bet it does hurt a bit as she tries to walk in circles when you are brushing her ..
add some Omega 3 fatty acids to her diet, her skin coat will improve alot, can't advise on brushes sorry
More important than the type of brush, while she still has all these marrs, is patience. You can only do a very little at a time and that can take weeks. I've been there.
The best thing to do for right now is to take her to a groomer and have these knots shaved out. These are painful matts. The more you try the more she is gonna keep away from you and youndon't want that. Also, get the groomer's advice on combs/ brushes.
Opus88's suggestion on the fatty acids is very good.
Blessings,
Melinda
