Is Quincy urinating or spraying?
It could be that he has developed an inappropriate urination behavior in response to not feeling well - possibly a low leval respiratory infection or nasal polyps, either of which could cause the mucus and sneezing. It could also be a UTI in addition to the other condition, although this seems less likely. I would also consider the possibility that Quincy has inhaled some product that is having a toxic effect. Have you used any new products lately?
Honestly, it sounds like two separate issues - the health issue (mucus, sneezing) and a psychological issue (the urinating). You have a new baby, which is a situation that often causes this kind of thing. Remember, Quincy was your baby and now he feels like an afterthought. He doesn't understand, but he isn't dumb! He gets it and doesn't like it - no one would. Cats don't like even minor changes in their lives and this is a big one! Even though it is natural, of course, that you are lavishing time and attention on your new arrival, perhaps you could consider spending some more of that time and attention on Quincy, help him through this and show him that he is still your baby. And, frankly, if you feel like you just can't, then you might think about finding a new home for Quincy. He's a beautiful guy (looks like such a sweetie!) and persians are very popular, maybe you could find someone who would like to adopt him.
Hi!
Thank you soo much for your advice! I was also thinking UTI...As far as us trying to give him more attention I really try to! I even put my son in his crib really early (1 month) because Quincy often likes to sleep with us in our bed..I try my best to keep "our cuddle time"...I hate the thought of finding another home for him as he is a beautiful cat!
I think I will set up a vets appt....THANK YOU sooo muchf or your input!
Well you won't be able to get rid of the smell to HIM. Cat urine is the worst and will stick around for a long time. So even if you cannot smell it, he can. Good thing to get him checked out.
I think your cat is trying to tell you there is something wrong with him. You should take him to the Vet + get him checked out. This is what they do when they have an illness. My Cat jumped in the middle of the bed peed everywhere, while I was running to rescue that situation he ran into the next bedroom and did the same thing, he was really ill it turned out. No harm to run by the vet I think.
Hi. I know exactly what is going on with Quincy. My name is Mollyrae and I have worked with a Vet a few years back.
Because you have a new addition to the family, things are not "normal" in the cats world. He has to share the attention he got from you with someone else and is not the center of your world anymore. Cats do not like change at all. He is peeing in the house for attention and this is his way of telling you he's not happy.
I have a Cat that does the samething when there is change in our home. For instance:
I babysat our Granddaughter for a week last month. Muffy (my cat) didn't like this at all and started peeing under the coffee table. She has never done this. At that point I knew it was either a bladder infection or change. It was not the bladder so this left change.
Cas will tell you if something is wrong or they don't like something......
There is no point in scolding Quincy, that will only make matters worse. Give him as much attention as possible. In the mean time, put tin foil down in the spots where he likes to pee or a product called "Cat Away" they are both safe when there is a baby in the house.
Take care and good luck in the future.
Mollyrae
Hi, I really hope that you decide to take your kitty to the vet for the UTI. I am betting that he was stressed out over the "big change" in your home, his immune system was down and he got the respiratory infection. This is what my take of your situation is. Your kitty will need antibiotics since this is a bacterial infection-NOT a virus. Cats do not get the kind of colds that us, humans get. Their "colds" do not just go away.
I bet some reassurance from you and your family is all that he needs to feel less stressed and more secure in his home. Right now, he feels threatened by the baby. As posted above, cats really hate any kind of change-it stresses them out big time!!
Let us know how things go!
