Loud Meows when I shower??

My cat has started a new strange behavior. Just so you know a little background on her she is a spayed 5 year old female Manx. When I go to take a shower in the morning she has ALWAYS tried to follow me into the bathroom, sometimes I let her in and sometimes I don't. Recently I have let her come in with me but I always keep the door cracked in case she wants to leave. The other day she did something she has never done, she started meowing extremely loud, to the point that she woke up my roommate from a dead sleep. My roommate came running in the bathroom to see what was wrong because we have only heard her make this sound when she was in pain. She only does this when I shower and when I pull back the shower curtain her eyes are very dark and she behaves as if she wants to get into the tub with me but she never does. She has done this twice and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what they think is going on with her??

My male Manx cat named Bob (LOL) does the same thing with the water and bath and the meow. He even gets the dark eyes too! Im thinking it may be in their breed! I must confess he makes me feel special with all this attention!! lol have a great day and love your kitty!!

Cat's are God's little laughter machines... Maxx Luggs, follows me around like a puppy dog. Always laying on me or next to me when I'm trying to do something important like type. If I'm playing a game and need to to use the mouse, he sits on my arm so I can't move my hand very well. He reminds me when I need to go pee, by stepping and needing my stomach. Then he gets upset when I have to get up to go pee! I haven't shut the door in 15 years to my bedroom or the bathroom. It was interesting to see my husband learn the hard way that he needs to put the seat down otherwise you end up with a wet seat. Maxx Luggs, will play in the water and yes, he loves to watch the poopies go by by.. sort of like a potty training two year old. Ti-gg-er (pronouced tiger) will butt your head in the dark as he silently jumps up on the counter and scares the heck out of you when you are half asleep. Symba, my princess kitty, taught them both how to get loves while someone is held captive on the comode doing a number two. She doesn't take well to you reading while you are in there to say the least.
I had to get a clear shower curtain so that they wouldn't play attack cat while we were showering. Not very funny to the hubby who has had to learn how to get along with cats and take a second chair to non-sexual intimacy. Funny thing is, he thinks I'm supposed to go to him to cuddle, like he hasn't taken the clue that I don't have to do that, and that the "Boys" come to me when they want attention. Hee hee...
Maxx Luggs has only fallen into the shower a couple of times, but he insists on straddling the tub, then jumping in to lick the water from the drain. I have to make sure there is no soap left over in so he doesn't get sick. Like it's better water than the water in his bowl... or that it's different or something. Maybe he likes the taste of my shampoo?
I did entertain myself with giving the babies bathes when they were kittens, but they never got "used" to it. As to getting them to use the toilet, that would be awesome! No more kitty litter all over the house to vacuum, I'd flush for them as it's better than cleaning litter boxes...
Ti-gg-er has been extremely affectionate lately. And he's such a moose of a cat that he's knocked me over a couple of times as I'm walking. He's bad about snaring your socks if you pass him by without a pet... maybe it's the new couch arrangement that's got him up in the air? He used to sit on the corner and everytime I'd pass that way, he'd get his pets. But now the corner is against the wall and I don't pass that way anymore to walk through the house... Hmmm... kitty logic sure can rack the brain.
So after laughing and crying so hard at the earlier posts, I hope my little ditty will add some humor as well...
Oh and Maxx Luggs is a great alarm clock. I get kisses and pats from his paws on the cheek. I just wish he wasn't such a morning kitty and would let me sleep in without me having to tell him it's still nite nite time... his snooze is so unpredictable though...

This is an adorable thread!  I was laughing and smiling all the way through.

I have never had a cat that lived completely indoors.  I can see if I did, I would never have a dull moment :)

Funny,I just mentioned a cat like the one you had in another post. The kind that is expert in using toilet. I knew one some time ago,it was quite interesting and surprising at that moment.Never had imagined that previously, but its quite useful :-)

when my cat was a kitten he used to do the same loud meowing thing and then one day he made a superman leap INTO the shower to "rescue" me and then he got tangled in the curtain trying to get out and then cried cause he was wet.

Now he is more cautious.  He still insists on being in the room with me and if I'm in the tub he tries to lick all the water off of my arms.  If I'm in the shower he just sleeps by the door.

Heh heh... cats do seem to like bathrooms. I've gotten to the point where I won't let them go in with me. My wife thinks I'm mean, but I point out I get in and out of the bathroom in a 1/4 the time she does since I'm not being "distracted". how can you get anything done with cats bouncing all over the bathroom being strange?!?!

My favorite is our tuxedo T.F.

He got in the habit for a while of stealing grapes from the grape bowl, carrying them to the bathroom, and dropping them in the tub drain. Which while funny, makes for a really irritating plugged drain to clean up!

Has anyone here ever had a cat teach itself to use the toilet? I had one do it once. It was the most startling thing in the world. I was home alone and I heard *someone* using the toilet...to go in and find this cat straddling the bowl.

I was trying to figure out a way to teach him to flush, but never came up with a good method!

We have nine cats and I have not gone to the bathroom nor taken a bath by myself in 12 years (Eugene, our oldest, was 12 in January)!  Between them and our collie, I have escorts no matter where I go in the house.  We travel as a little entourage.  Everyone has their own job as part of my "security team", in fact, I joke with my husband that I'm going to get everyone little T shirts that say "Security" on them.  A couple of them have to stand up and watch the toilet flush, presumably just to make sure everything goes well, a couple of others have to sit on the sink or the back of the toilet and make sure the cats in the mirror don't try to infiltrate the room while we're all in there, and Ed-A-Puss, the genius, cannot grasp the fact that you can't walk on the bubbles in a bubble bath, so he falls into the tub with me with alarming regularity.  There's never a dull moment here, that's for sure.

We have a total of 6 cats, 2 of which HAVE to be in the bathroom when I shower (our Golden retriever has to be there as well)..they'll occasionally howl, or one will sit on the edge of the tub between the curtain and the liner..the other does a little dance on the counter as I dry off and brush my teeth, etc, knocking stuff on the floor in the process.
The dog just sleeps.

Normal stuff, I'm sure.

My cat does all of the above. He's about 1 years old and if the door is shut at night he will meow and meow. When he was little he used to just stay in the room but now he always wants to go in and out all night. He meows loudly in the morning even when he has food in his bowl. He's an extremely active cat and just always wants to play.

He wakes up my roommate and I don't know what to do because if she shuts the door he meows and if she opens it he comes up and bothers her.

He alllways meows loudly when I take a shower. It's only when I pull the curtain back and look at him that he finally shuts up.

He's a very good kitty but i wish he wasn't so damn loud! Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a cat that I swear is insane too. He is the kind of cat that if he can't see me he will do this godawful Weeaaaarrroooowwwww...kind of meow...I learnt to copy him and he shuts up. Or I call his name loudly KIMBA! and again he shuts up. I think they do it coz they can't see us and get abit worried we have 'disappeared' never to return! My other two cats will do it too occasionally but I've had them longer so they know I am not 'gone' I'd just 'talk' to your cat, like,"It's ok puss I'm here" and you will probably find your kitty will accept you didn't do a Houdini trick!
Cheers!

I had a cat who did this who got accidentally locked in the shower (glass door) while I was warming the bathroom.

I came running when it began screaming like it was being tortured. I found it drenched and despondent, looking like a drowned rat. Needless to say, he never went near the bathroom again!

I cracked up when I read this post, because my cat used to do the same thing.  My husband would get so irritated, because it would always wake him up in the morning!  Our cat did this, without fail, every morning, for the first year or two that we had her.  She'd even jump up on the bath tab ledge and sit against the other side of the shower curtain.  I think she just wanted attention when I first woke up, after running around the apartment like a lunatic the entire night while we slept (she was very active at night as a kitten).

Anyway, she doesn't do it anymore (she's 9 now).  When I think about it, I think it stopped when we moved from that apartment.   Maybe she sensed a ghost in the old place...haha.

Hope it passes, or at least stops waking up others! good luck.

I've heard that there is a certain breed of cat that really likes water.  My friend had used to have a cat that would sit on the edge of the tub while she showered and then would hang out in the tub after she showered and got out.  Strange, but the cat loved water.

Heh heh...I always assume it's your cat's way of saying "Oh My God! What is WRONG with you?!?! That's WATER! A LOT of WATER! Are you insane?! Suicidal?! Why Would you do that?!?!"

hahahahaha my cat does the same thing. I guess since she follows you around all the time then she obviously wants to be there so she'll makes sure she communicates that to you. She wont get in because you didn't get her used to bathing in your bathtub with you. I bet she would certainly do it should you had taught her when she was little. My cat is the same way but it gets to a point when I cannot stand his loud meow and I'll tell him to be quiet. Then he'll lay there and waits for me to get out just to keep his daily routine of following me around the house. Isn't that cute? There is nothing wrong with her. Se is just curious, anxious. She is just being a cat and cats are weird. Try not to understand her or you'll go crazy..trust me lol.
