My Cat Scratched Me.

So Dillan was trying to jump up one of our walls that don’t reach the roof. I don’t know how they are called. He couldn’t get a good grip and fell backwards. I was doing dishes. It all happened in front of my eyes. As I see my kitty falling down and not doing so hot on his aerodynamics I immediately released the cup I was washing and grabbed him. He  couldn’t flip in the air. He was going to injure his spine badly. I was able to catch him. I held him for a bit as he was in total shock and didn’t even want me to let him go. I held him against my chest and told him he was a’right. But I got scratched. He didn’t mean to, of course. As ya’ll know, when they get scared their claws come out. He accidentally scratched me with his back claws as I was grabbing him so he already had his claws out. I only declaw my cats’ front claws. I don’t do the back.

He scratched my belly.

My skin is very sensitive and I know for a fact that the scar will stay there for a while and then that area will be darker. My belly is growing every day since I’m almost seven months pregnant. So my question is, are there any remedies out there that I could use so this scars don’t stay and definitely don’t stain my skin?

My poor kitty…..this could have happened when I wasn’t there. He would be at the vet right now with an injured back and broken bones!!

I have cats who like to play a little rough at times and really really hate the vets! - my hands are covered in scratches which end up staying as scars....
I now use the Dr Max Powers Scar Serum twice a day for just short of a week, I have noticed the smaller scars on my hands have started to fade (they aren't noticeable to others, but as I know where they are I can still just see them). Its certainly a product that I am going to keep using.

Just chiming in --Elizabeth Arden has a ointment called "8 Hour Cream". This was developed originally for burn victims. Could be a good choice.

I will. Thanks April. Thing is...I'm ok if I get stretch marks from this pregnancy. But having stretch marks plus cat scratch isn't funny lol, especially since my skin is so sensitive that evrey time I get scratched (not by my cats, they are gentle) it (the scratch) just darkens my skin and it won't fade away. That's what I don't want! ugh..

Luckily..this scratch is fading with Vit E :-)

I'd ask your ob doctor first if it's ok to use Mederma, just to be on the safe side. Vitamin E helps a lot too.
My daughter got some pretty bad stretch marks on her tummy but not till the last month or two. Don't worry if it happens to you. It happens to a lot of pregnant women and it will fade until barely noticable given time.

Glad Dillan's ok!

Teddybear,

Thanks.  But applying just any type of lotion doesn’t work for me. I have tried lots of things with no success.

I have been putting Vit E since I read the suggestions today. Hopefully this will help.

Jade,
He doesn’t jump from the ground. He jumps on the counter, then up to the top of the kitchen cabinet, then up to the wall, and then he starts making funny happy noises, running all accross the top of the wall until he falls asleep. So cute!
I can’t believe I am still in shock. The image of him falling down and not being able to flip his body to land on his four makes me so sad. I wonder why he wasn't able to do this. He is so agile!

Linda,
You didn’t get stretch marks? You lucky gal :-) I have not gotten any yet…but I suspect I will. My skin is way too dry and sensitive.  Hmm..Mederma huh? I may have that at home. I’ll ask hubby. I’m at work and won’t get off until 4:00AM. yay me :-(

I have read that any lotion can help.  Also a lot of cosmetic companies make scar reducing lotions.  Stardust caught my wrist with her back claws a few times and that is what I have always used.

CATastrophe.....LMAO,good one PK.  Mederma is for scars specifically and works better on new ones...just rub a tiny bit on the spot every day. It helped the scar on my leg...it didn't totally disappear. I was lucky...never had a stretch mark, not sure why.  I was thinking they make something specifically for stretch marks, but not the cocoa butter. The Vit E might work best of all.

Wow, PK.  I can see what happened clearly and yes, good save!  In the 80's, our apartment had a wall that didn't go to the ceiling and our cat would jump from the kitchen table to the top of it.  I know exactly what you're saying.  Plus, I remember noticing that in your house photos.  Does Dillan jump from the GROUND, up?

Mederma is an ointment all it's own.  Nothing to do with Palmers.  Also, I count on Neo-
Sporin for things like that and Vit E is a great suggestion, too.

Thanks for your suggestions ladies. I will try them all see how that goes. My fear is that, because my skin is stretching every day, that the scar will not heal. Is that possible?

Linda,

Stretch marks....do you mean the Cocoa Butter from Palmer's? That lotion irritates my skin badly. I'm looking at it and it is still red..but I know it will not fade but turn darker than my skin instead. Ugh....

Opus,
Dillan is very agile, and the fact that he is declawed has never prevented him from jumping and climbing real high. This one time, I honestly don't know what happened; probably a miscalculation on his part. He is well proportioned (unlike Abby who already looks like a mini cow) and can take on anything. I guess he had a moment lol. All I know is I reacted fast enough to prevent a CATastrophe. With how slow I am these days I still don't know how I was able to do that. It all happened in a split second!!

your his 'hero'...good save PK!
my Sami whose also declawed has many such tumbles although not from such a height....he continually tries to jump from my bed over to the bookcase under 'his window'..and when tad short of the distance he attempts to grab on and slips to the floor....he is most embarrassed after such an incident!
Another scar treatment you can try is simply squeezing Vit E from a capsule and rubbing it on the area a few x per day....I've used it on small scratches and it seems to work.
good luck with that!...waiting to see the 'headlines' lol

Wow...PK.!  I can see the headlines.."quick-thinking agile woman saves appreciative cat  while both pregnant and doing dishes."   Sorry you got scratched in the midst of the fracus.  The only thing I have ever used on a scar was mederma when I broke my leg which worked pretty wee...you have to apply it every day but what about that stuff they recommend for stretch marks, it might work as well on little scars.  Glad you were able to save him from the fall. :)
