That sounds like a great idea to wait until she's in heat to do some scanning.
I do wish you the best of luck with the new vet. I'm sure your vet won't mind giving you that referral.
Every other week she is in heat. I called CVS California Veterinary Services. She would need a referral by my Vet to go there but they told me maybe a Cats Scan would reveal the ovary. I will call my Vet tomorrow.
There's got to be a vet that can open her up and get the ovary out. You should make some phone calls and explain the situation to them over the phone. If someone sounds promising, then I would make an appointment.
one more thing - today she is going thru another heat. Geez I hope this doesn't happen every two weeks!!!!!
I took her to another vet and they don't think the ultrasound will reveal anything - what a waste of $. I took her their on a recommendation that they had an ultrasound expert. Talked to my vet and he said maybe to wait at least 12 months and also when she is in heat again. The ovary may be large enough, while in heat, to identify.
I think you're right. Your vet is probably not comfortable searching for the missing ovary. Hopefully, the ultrasound that you have scheduled will show where it is. You can probably request some blood work that shows hormone levels. That will prove that the ovary is still there.
Best wishes. Please, keep me posted. I know she must be miserable.
My vet "really" does not want to look for the ovary again. He said he would have found it if it was there. The missing ovary was the left one. He feels because she only had a half of uterus that it may have attached itself to another organ such as under the pancreas.
So, I'm taking her in for an ultrasound to another vet on Tuesday for a 2nd opinion. I've been going to my vet for over 20 years and I do trust him but maybe he is just not comfortable with this.
Poor thing, she is just miserable!....and so are we - hahahaha
WOW!! Two vets couldn't find the "missing" ovary. That's crazy. Your best bet would be a veterinary surgical specialist, or possibly an internist. You need a specialist to deal with this issue. That really is your very best bet.
BTW, the cat that had the remnant ovary removed didn't die of the cancer in that remaining ovary. It was encapsulated and easily removed. We were very very lucky. She ended up passing away due to chronic kidney disease.
Best best wishes to you! Please come back with an update. I'd love to hear how your fur baby is doing.
no doubt about it today ...she is in heat. Poor little thing, her first surgery was bad enough - long scar and longer than usual recovery due to the missing ovary which was never found. BTW, a second vet was brought in the first time. So, there is no guarantee the Vet will find it this time. Why do I always get abnormal cats?
So sorry to hear about your cat that had cancer. Had to put down one of my males due to him not recovering with force feeding and care after a cancerous tumor was removed. If I know, I will normally will put a cat down rather then put him thru suffering & surgery but it was blocking his intestine, I didn't know it was cancerous, and he was in a lot of sudden pain.
It definitely sounds like she's in heat!!
Don't wait too long to get this checked out. We had a cat that had part of her ovary remain after a supposed spay and it turned cancerous.
I'm sorry to say that this will require surgery to correct. There's no getting around it. It's not worth risking that this, too, will turn cancerous.
Well, here it is January 2016, not quite 4 months later and I believe my cat is going into heat. She is crying loud and a lot. I will wait and see more signs but geeeeeeez I hate for her to go thru another surgery - trying to find the missing ovary
Well, I sure hope the vet gave you a discount! lol
One time I had a cat spayed, and the vet did not even take out the ovaries. He swore he did, but when the cat went into heat we had her spayed again by a different vet, and both ovaries and one uterine horn were still in the cat. I often wondered what the first vet took out, that he thought he had spayed the cat.
Not saying your vet missed anything, it is possible for animals (women too for that matter) to have malformed uteruses.
