Memorial poem by a friend.

Glendon "Harbard" Todd was a friend who I never met in person.  He was devoted to both the faith we shared, to his family and to his companion animals (dogs in his case).

Here's a poem he wrote when one of his beloved canine companions passed on...I found it going through my files this morning and thought of Kessie.  He passed away in September, 2006 and joined his companions who fared before him, I am sure.

The Final Faring - Glendon Todd - 2001 CE

Now fare away, my friend and my companion,
The final trail awaits to lead you home.
The Lady's gentle touch will heal you, the Guardian
Will keep you safe until the day I come.

Join now with those who've run this trail before you
The friends who've gone ahead to light the way
The candle flames, pieces that we hold of Bifrost's glow
They light the trail at closing of the day.

Come now away, who've served your folk with honour,
Your place awaits, green fields or snowy trail.
Run free and play, 'til comes again one that you wait for
You'll know again the bond that does not fail.

Hold high your head, my friend of the fur kindred
You've earned the right, for well you've made your name
Know now the touch of Heimdall's guarding hand upon your head
And know as well for you there is no shame.

So fare thee well, my fur friend brave and true
The time has come to make that long voyage
Dear friend of mine, the day will come that I will join you;
Together we will cross the Rainbow Bridge.

When I first saw the poem, I got Harbard's phone number from a mutual friend and we commiserated for almost an hour.

Him over Scout (the dog for whom he wrote it) and me over Queen Victoria and Cerridwen Blythe, the 2 kitties I had recently lost.

It was the first and only time we ever were able to connect by phone, but I treasure the many thousands of words we exchanged by other means.
