Latest attempt at getting Miss Teia to broaden her horizons (not so much success thus far)...
For a few hours each day, I shoo the other kitties out of the master bedroom (which is adjacent to Teia's room) and put up a baby gate across the hallway for Teia...this more than doubles the available square footage she has to roam.
Thus far she seems content with space available...
However, she is less squirmy when I pick her up and carry her to other parts of the house, if the journey is no more than a few minutes.
Hey Pip, love this latest update.
You and Anita are wonderful people for having the patience to bring this kitty out of her shell. How rewarding!! =)
I'm with you, Ali. Pip and Anita are the best! How very fortunate for Teia to land in such an awesome household. She probably feels like she's coming to life for the first time IN her life.
Pip...Teia's progress is happening so fast now. She finally has people she can trust and I'm positive we will soon be hearing of Teia outside her room. She is getting braver. I'm so happy for you guys - you and Anita must be so thrilled. All your endless patience is paying off.
AWWW Pip, you have to be the most patient, caring and kitty loving person on the planet. Very few people, including me, would take Teia in and help her mend. It is SO much fun to hear her updates and he escapades with her kitty siblings. :)
Well, tonight we almost had a REAL BIG event.
Miss Teia was eye-balling me as I was going from room to room collecting trash for the morning pickup.
I decided to sit down in the hallway, near "her" door. I softly called her name and patted my lap.
She was looking and looking, took a step, took a step...made it to 1/2 a footstep outside Her Room...
I think I'll get her to accept the house is bigger then Her Room... =)
Pip, sometimes it can be just a little frustrating. I feel like I am going through a similar thing with Heidi. We "un-bonded" for awhile...a few months we were away... and unfortunately now she doesn't want to even come to me. She has become an outside kitty and she loves it. Last night while I was out side she wouldn't have anything to do with me but a couple hrs later I went out with a tiny piece of cheese and I sat down on a chair on the porch and she came up and rubbed my legs, I gave her the cheese and jumped up on my lap for just a few seconds but I felt very encouraged. I hope we can get back to the point we were at before our time being apart.
You have proved the slow and steady, patient route is indeed the only way to go. :)
This afternoon, Teia let me pick her up, stand and walk her a little way down the hall before she started her throaty, worried mioaw.
So, back to her window box for a little petting and then some snack.
I figure I'll do this every day or so to try and get her used to the idea that the rest of the house is hers, too.
Teia has gotten to the point where she wants lap time before supper, but wants to get down to business for breakfast (a scritch or two is okay, but Noms is better).
Aw...the first belly rub for Teia. I think I might cry. And the brushing! That's so exciting!
Sounds like Teia speaks and Hildie listens : )
This evening, Miss Teia had settled on my lap for some heavy duty petting.
Anita came in to sit on the end of the bed and pet Teia a bit...
Hildie came in and stayed after Anita left. She and Teia were just a foot or so apart. Hildie kept making and breaking eye contact, which Teia put up with for several minutes, did not try to get closer.
Finally Teia "huffed" at Hildie, Hildie replied and they "talked" back and forth for a couple of minutes before Teia hissed to which Hildie replied in kind and then left the room.
All the while Teia stayed nestled on my lap. She got up and went back to her window seat after Hildie was out of sight.
Pip, I'm so happy for you...Teia has made great strides. She loves you very much ♥ Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy.......♥
isnt that wonderful Pip , she is certainly settling now, my Tweety doesnt come up to sit on our laps , she will sit next to us on the sofa at night if coaxed ...
Wow, that is fantastic. With patience and persistence, she has become quite the gregarious love bunny hasn't she!
