Social Contact!!!

Hey, hey, hey!

Tonight, as Miss Teia was getting pre-supper scritches, Hildie came closer than usual...laid down between my feet for a moment...Missy T stretched out and sniffed Hildie's ear, nose making contact for a few seconds!!!

After Teia broke contact, Hildie got up and went to her side of the food dishes and Teia went to hers.  (It was Fish for dinner.)

Oh boy, am I pumped; all who have followed Teia's story since the beginning on June 2 years ago know how big this little thing is...

Folks who are new to the Teia Saga; this kitty came into our lives on 2 June 2009.  She was 10 1/2 years old, was rescued from the streets by her previous people at about 6-months old.  She was abused by people and other cats.  I believe they cared deeply, but had 3 young children who took up most of their attention.  They gave Teia a safe haven, but very little socialization (and their existing cat went after her from time to time)...she came out only at night, ate only dry food, did not play, disliked people, hated other cats...bite both Anita and me, attacked Kessie, Hildie and Chessie (still not too fond of Chessie).

We (especially me) refused to accept that this kitty could not be reached.  Teia has been my "therepy kitty," as my wife had worked in a rehab program for rescued dogs.

As I have been typing, Teia came into my office...I heard a HISS and turned to see Teia leaping over Hildie, who had come into the room behind her.

Guess Teia still has some trust issues. ;-)

Picture is from 2 nights ago; 1st time in awhile that Teia has settled in my lap.

I have started "Teia's Saga."

She is really a special kitty and has been such a help to me in my personal struggle to stay well in order to help Anita in her struggle to recover from PTSD stemming from her service in the USAF.

Are you planning on writing Teia's saga into a book or a special blog?  This precious story really should be written in a book.  I think there are plenty of animal behaviorists and enthusiasts who would find her story intriguing, especially the way you write here.  And, I think the story needs to be told, because most people write cats off with a background like hers, even though some now recognize that this kind of therapy works for dogs.  It's proof that the right interaction will really help a very scarred and scared kitty come out of her shell.

I talked with Karen and Lou, the nice folks who looked in on our kitties...over the course of the 2 weeks, Lou saw Kessie and Chessie, Karen saw Hildie and Teia...4 visits, 1 of them saw 1 kitty, each time.

Sounds like Teia was happy to have you back!  My folks, my younger sister and I went on a one night get-away and came back the next day recently and Catalina was really happy to have us back too!

We got back from our Massachusetts - Vermont - Massachusetts trip Friday afternoon; took a couple hours for the girls to come out of hiding, including Teia.

Our girls are wary creatures, cautious with us after we've been gone a bit (2 weeks this time).  A couple that Anita knows through the Veterans' dog program came by every other day to check on things, they saw 2 of the kitties, once.

By Saturday morning, everything was back to status quo, a lot faster for Teia than I had thought, we even had lap time after supper.

How exciting for you to witness another step for Teia!  Hope she can increase her trust with Hildie!  And it must have been so nice to have the cat settle.

Catalina decided she wanted on my lap earlier today- I like that she wants to do that!  She also decided earlier today that I should stop looking through the papers, etc. in a folder and laid on top of them... then she wanted to play!
