Lacey,
Whatever happened to the cat and kittens?
ZQ,
You are mean hearted. You need to quit being so hateful to people, at least she was trying something.
You suggested she get someone that can do something. How about you give her your credit card # and let her get this cat taken care of. You are grown, you can do something.
If you don't have the money to afford a cat's vet care, you find them an owner that can. It's as simple and unselfish as that.
bless you for trying to save this abandon cat and her kittens...it shows you care when he owners did not. I hope you were able to find a compassionate vet for her and at least able to save the kittens...good for you for being there and doing the best you can.
Zod...pls don't condemn someone for asking for advice and for trying, we shouldn't be here to judge....obviously she should have taken this cat for care sooner but there are situations where those options may not be possible.
I tend to agree with the suggestions of taking the cat to to the ASPCA. They would have all the necessary facilities to take care of mother cat and her kittens. Hope everything works out.
BTW, if mother cat is unable to nurse them, you could try Hill's a/d. We've done it and they really like the taste.
the only thing you can do is too get her to a vet ASAP! if you can't afford vet care see if you can work something out with the vet. i know with our vet if you can't afford it he sets up payment plans or helps so that your animal can get the help s/he needs. remember she's a mommy and those babies NEED their mommy!
She should've taken the cat to the animal shelter or put an ad in the paper to find the cat a good home. If she had done that, the cat wouldn't be suffering right now.
LaceyLoo, can your mom or dad help? Do they know what's going on? I know you're trying to help this cat since it was abandoned and I think that's admirable of you but I think you need more help than just you can give.
What happened to the kittens? Is she still producing milk and taking care of them? Do you have pets of your own that you take to a vet? If so, call them and explain what's going on. If not, look up an emergency vet service and tell them that you found this cat and don't want her to die and ask if they can help. Most ER vets are open 24 hours a day so that would probably be your best option.
ZQ, did you notice that she said this cat was abandoned and that she's trying to take care of it? And that she's only 17? I doubt she has a credit card. I know my 17 year old daughter doesn't have a credit card, nor does she have a lot of money or even her own car right now. I really think this girl is going to have to get some adult help here, hopefully from her parents.
Let's hope she checks back here and calls the vet ASAP before this cat dies. I pray she makes it through for the sake of her kittens. Poor kitty.
Try your local Humane Society or animal rescue organizations, most have in house medical clinics. THe ASPCA website has some national listings. Good luck to both of you (and the kitties that are depending on her to nurse them)!
Wow...lets beat up a 17 year old for trying to help an animal! That will sure accomplish a lot!
Your cat really does need vet care, and pretty fast. Different vets will charge different prices and some of them may be willing to offer minimal care (depending on what is actually wrong) at a cut rate for you. But you have to be honest and explain the situation to them. You have to make the call, and its going to be a very hard set of calls to make. A set of calls because you'll probably have to call several before you find a vet who will work with you.
If you don't get your cat care, given the symptoms you presented, she is likely to die. If that happens, you have some level of responsibility to care for the kittens (you do anyway, but its a different job when you have no mother cat). You will need to learn how to feed them and work with them as a surrogate mother. It takes time but it is possible.
You could give the cat (and kittens) to a local shelter. If you go that route, be advised that they are unlikely to give you back any of the animals even if they survive.
Do you have any friends around with cats who could help you? That may be your best route.
You sound like, though inexperienced, you do care for the animals. Best of luck to you.
There is absolutely nothing you can do at home. Your cat obviously needs vet care...no question about that. Since your cat got sick soon after birth, she probably has some sort of infection or possibly a retained kitten. She is probably in a lot of pain and doesn't have much time left.
You must do the right thing and bring her to a vet ask about payment options or put it on a credit card. Your cat is suffering and you need to think twice about having animals when you know very well that you won't be able to afford medical care. They deserve a good and responsible owner, which obviously, you are not.
