You need to take him to the vet as soon as you can. It is not good when you can hear any noises from the chest especially from that far away. Your cat is obviously in pain. This is not something you can fix on your own.
You say it sounds like cellophane which to me sounds like a crackling noise. In crackling noises in the lungs point to fluid in the lungs. Any lung or upper respiratory problems in felines progress rapidly and can do serious damage. Again, please take to the vet.

I've seen these symptoms with pneumonia and heart failure, which can cause the lungs to fill up with fluid.
