Jade...Good News!

Our Vet called and the biopsy for the ear tips did show Squamous Cell Carcinoma due to UV irradiation.  The Good News is the cancer was completely removed, the margins are clean and the prognosis is good.  I am so relieved!

We went for our visit tonight and Jade is doing just Great!  Other than her looks, you'd never know she had been through a thing!   She's wandering the halls, everyone loves her and she's eating like the little piglet she is.  I bet she is in that cage only half the time other recovering pets are.

She finally had a bowel movement early this morning and tech said it was Everywhere!  On her bum, feet, around the cone, all over the walls...poor kitty :(....poor tech lol.  The shirt and rug we brought were in the wash and of course, her mousie had to be thrown away.  I'm sure she feels lots better though since the last time she had a bm was last Sat!  Man, she held it alright!

I've attached a pic of her new "look."  This pic of her is 72hrs post op.

Phew!  Now is can relax a little...

Aligator,

I just can't get over your home built cat tree. It is gorgeous! You posted a thread on how you built it. I'm looking for it but can't find it. Very nice job I say.

As for your worries, I'm with Jade...nothing to worry about :)

I'm not sure if I was clear, but since Olivers nose is also pink, it is susceptible to skin cancer as well.   I am not at all sure if you can put sunscreen on his nose though.  Another question for your Vet :)

We are lucky in the fact that Jades nose is black so I've never had to deal with that part.

Oh you could See the cancer...and feel it.  Black scabs on the tips and newer brown scabs making their way down her ears where they connect to the head.  They feel like a scab would feel...kind of rough.

I've seen your kitty Oliver and he is a beauty! ...and very white.  The nicks you describe that have seperated are likely nothing to worry about.  The knots, now, I don't know without seeing a pic.  Even in a pic, it would be hard to tell if it were cancer or not so I would advise you taking Oliver for a checkup and address this particular question.

Ideally, white cats should be kept out of the sun completely and that means sun coming in a window as well.  Ideally, I say :)  The skin on the ears and in Oliver's case, his nose also, isn't covered with fur or very little and just roasts in the sun.  Very bad.

I'm so glad you asked about sunscreen.  I brought up this question to my Vet the first time we took Jade in and you are right.  The kind made for babys.  UVA & UVB block/SPF 50/Tear Free.  Any brand will do.  I would start putting this on his ears immediatly!  Ali, if I were you, I would get those *knots* checked asap just to be sure :)

Okay?  Ttyl :)

How did you find out about Jade's cancer?  Did you feel something or did it look different?  Or did she just not feel good?

I have an all white kitty with very pink ears- Oliver- who has a couple of knots on his ears.  He's a fighter so he now has a couple little nicks at the top that didn't heal back together (poor guy- but it's cute and I like to play with it :) ) I figured the knots were scar tissue from fights.  The size and shape hasn't changed.  Should I just keep an eye on it to see if it changes or ??   I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but do know I need to keep an eye on him.

Oh-  I think someone said something about sunscreen,  I have 2 other cats that my lick his ears- do I need something special or just a regular sunscreen?  Baby stuff maybe?

Yeah, me and my "things" hahahahaha.  I'm sure people often think I'm a little dingy, but I try not to worry about that 'cause otherwise, I would never write anything lol!!!

NK (is that right? :) is sleeping in our backyard right now.  She has taken Over since Jade's been gone.  I did not like coming across her in the dark last night to see she was eating a bird!  I know that's a natural thing, but I worry about diseases.  I worry for NK, but more for Jade as she and NK come into contact sometimes.  NK is so thin.  Her owner says she eats, but says NK sometimes doesn't come home for days so I'm unsure.  I don't dare feed her.  I Want her to go home and eat.  Just can't help but worry about a kitty I've come to know and care about and plus, she is Right Before My Eyes everyday so I can't possible ignore the situation.

Maybe I'll phone NK's owner again.  Thankfully, she is very nice and receptive to me.  Hahaha...I'm just typin' out loud here...

Thank you Lynne!  I appreciate your well wishes.  I tell Jade she has lots of friends here on the forum and she is grateful :)  I'm very happy for You and the outcome of the biopsy for Annie.  What a relief for you!  So much cancer going on :(   I'm so sorry about your kitty that passed.

Savas...Thank you!  We are so relieved.  I mean, we could have put Jade through the surgery only to find out the cancer was below the incision.  That would have been devastating.

I've thought about the slideshow, but don't understand how to enter the pic??  Send one to MH?  How do I do that exactly? :)

Congrat's on the successful outcome!

That's a cute kitty, who deserves to have pixs plastered everywhere.

Jade, send a pixs in to medhelp to post on the slideshow, it would be a moral booster for those who are dealing with a similar issue to see a picture of your little warrior.

I am incredibly happy for you and Jade. Our Annie recently underwent surgical biopsy for an enormous tumor on her liver, and we were given the incredibly good and surprising news that it was actually a benign cyst. After losing our other kitty to multricentric lymphoma, it really had seemed to us that all surgical outcomes and tests were bad news ... it is so wonderful to hear "we got it all" and that the patient is recovering. Please give Jade a hug from us, too. She was very brave and everyone is proud of her.

Neighbor Kitty = NB???  hahaha...what am I talking about!?!  I should have been using the initials NK!!!  Yikes!  Yes PK, *double checking to make sure I'm using your correct initials,* I'm creative alright.  Creatively mixed up it looks like lol.  Ahhh...this is what insomnia does to a person :)

I DO know Neighbor Kitty's (aka NB's aka NK's) real name, I just didn't write it in order to stay a little anonymous...as if any of my neighbors who might be here at MH wouldn't recognize Jades picture anyway...

I can only imagine her as a kitten, looking JUST like that!! Adorable! Ha! She is very, very cute.

Looks like NB has adopted you guys. Is that really her name? hahahaha It's funny, though. You are very creative :) Don't worry about the length of your post. I enjoyed reading all about NB and Jade and her fresh water preferences. My cats chase the broom, but fear the vacuum. I have Abby here teaching Dillan a life lesson: How to WAIT for your turn when it comes to drinking from the water fountain...hahahaha...cats.....

Aww....thank you!  She Is pretty cute, isn't she? :)  With her head shaved and ears gone one of the girls at the vet thinks she looks like that shrunken head scene in *Beetlejuice* and she does!  I'm going to post another pic of her on my profile today.  I think y'all might see what I mean lol.

I looked up the Scottish Fold and you guys are right!  Yup, that's what she looks like alright with her little round face...

Poor Jade, she is ready to come home, that's for sure.  Saturdays are busy at our Vet so we had to stay in the room for our visit.  We got our lovin' in, but she mostly wants out of the room once she's out of the cage.  I can understand :(   Her ears are healing nicely and she seems perfectly fine.  One of the joys in her life is getting fresh water.  She Loves her water.  Loves it so much, I thought there was something wrong with her like Diabetes, when I first met her.  Her water can be put down 30secs ago, but if she didn't *see* you fill her cup, she will ask for fresh.  I use this distraction when we are getting ready to leave.  Take her cup and get fresh water so she is happy and lapping it up as we close up the cage and leave.

Maddie6...Jade is not only a cutie, but super easy going and not much fazes her.  She's not afraid of the lawn mower or vacuum, but if you even Look like you're going to pick up a broom, she is gone before you can blink!  She Hates the broom.

I'll miss seeing her today, but I do have a "spare" kitty who hangs out in our yard every day and night who I leave water out for and can pay attention to.  This young cat began coming over when we first got Jade and she and Jade are friends.  Somewhat.  Jade tolerates her.  Neighbor Kitty (NB) is very moody and I think I've heard and felt her purr Once in the last 3yrs.  She hisses into the air over nothing and gives a low growl after only a minute of petting, normally.  With Jade gone, NB acts like a completely different cat!  She is lovin' on us and purring and talking and I am completely astonished by this change in her.  NB doesn't normally make any sound when she tries to meow either, but she is now!?!

Clearly, NB wants to be the ONLY kitty here LOL!  Sorry NB...Jades comin' home in a week, I tell her.  I think our neighbor would give NB to us, she's Always here, but we can't take on the financial responsibility of a second cat.  NB's *third eyelid* has been showing since the day she showed up ( I believe she was less than a year old 3yrs ago) and I am under the impression this is indicative of illness?  Nope, can't afford another kitty.

Okay then...oops, this turned out to be a long post...and about another cat even lol.

Oh and can you all imagine Jade as a tiny little kitten?  How cute would that be!?!

Hi All,

Yes, Definitely a WOOHOO moment now lol.  Vet spoke with us yesterday at our visit and said ears were healing well and Jade is doing Great!  Everyone is her "friend" there and when I call, I say "I'm calling about my cat, Jade" and the receptionist says, "Oh, you mean MY cat Jade" LOL!!

Vet said we made a very good decision to go ahead with the surgery now rather than later.  She was very sure of the cancer she was looking at and said if we continued to wait, we could have eventually been looking at Melanoma which of course, is deadly.

Jade looked even better last night, her wounds are healing nicely with the edges tucked under just the way the doctor wanted.  We are so happy with this Vet and her team and feel good leaving Jade in their hands another 7-9days.  Believe me, she's out of that cage more than she's in.  The receptionist brings her in the little front area with her when no ones there or else just wanders around.  I'm so glad she's not stuck in her cage with her cone on day and night.  Cone is only on at night when no one is there.  I believe the pain meds will discontinue tomorrow.

We are getting ready to go see her right now as the Vet closes at noon.  They are closed tomorrow so we won't see her again until Monday night.  It'll be hard to wait that long :(

We have a good Vet, but thanks to Everyone's prayers and support in addition, the stress of this experience was been reduced tremendously!  I mean, really truly.  I would have been a wreck without your caring words to hold in my heart.

Thank You!!  Everyone!!

Jade looks so healthy.  It's nice to see a victory over a potentially deadly foe.

Here's to kitty's swift healing; let the happycatness be fully restored!

I'm so happy to see how good she looks!  And, I'm so relieved that you were able to stop the cancer from spreading - WOOHOO!!!  (Is it okay to say it's a WOOHOO moment now - LOL!!!!)

We do know when our furr babies are sick.  I remember when I first felt Daisy's lump, I immediately took her to the vet.  He checked it out and took blood work and everything was fine.  But, inside I knew something was wrong with her.  She would have days she didn't seem to feel good.  I would look at her and say, "you don't feel good do you sweetie."  Hubby would say, "Why?"  I would just tell him I could tell.  We get to know them so well.

Anyway, I'm so happy that things are working out for you!  I agree with April, I hope you can get some well deserved rest now.

Hugs,
Janet

Poor baby, what a little trooper she is! We could all learn so much from our pets, couldn't we! You don't see animals get all vain like we would, lol. Animals just don't care! Like I said, we could learn a lot from animals!
She looks pretty darn good to me in that picture for just having had surgery like that. I'm so glad to hear she's doing so well!
I know you are relieved that this is over and it looks like you really did make the right decision. Always trust your instincts. I realized that with my kids. I'd always know when something was wrong and when they needed to be brought in to the hospital. I think it's the same with our pets. After all, they are our kids too!
I hope you can get some much needed rest now so that you can give her lots of love and attention once she gets home. I am sooo glad this is over for you all! Take care of yourselves and precious Jade.
Hugs and blessings,
April
