Hi, I have a 8yr old daughter who has CMI and we are in search of a well experienced NS (speciallized in children who will/can perform Chiari surgeries) and found Dr.Won in Fontana Kaiser. I read that you may know this doctor, if you can give me some feedback regarding Dr. Won and anything you can share with me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your time.
Thank you so much selmaS for letting me know and getting back to me regarding Dr. Won, I really appreciate it.
Hi we have a member redkim that had her surgery done by Dr Won in the Kaiser network.
I am sure if u PM her she will be happy to give u info on him.
Thank you to all so much for your information, I feel so much better than before, when I didn't know much about Chiari and had more questions than answers.
With all of your help and support I feel more ready, I know nothing can really prepare me emotionally when that day really comes and when my baby is in pain but with our Chiari community website and knowing that I have so many of wonderful Chiarian's support, I feel soooo much better. This is a wonderful place, feels like God's present to me, all of you are God's wonderful present to me. Thank you!!!! I'm waiting for them to referral Janie to another NS in Fontana, Dr. Won if anyone knows anything about him please if you can give me some info, I would really appreciate it. I will update when I find out the date of my precious angel Janie, please if you can pray for us to meet/find the right NS for Janie..... thank you soooo much!!!! I am so grateful fo you all....
Having been through other types of surgery and being caretaker of my ex thru several surgeries, may I suggest that you talk to the nurse or surgeon about timing it so that your child is not sent home from the hospital on a Friday? It would be better to have her home early in the week so the doctor's office will be open to answer your questions. Whatever you prepare for as far as complications and questions, it will likely be something else entirely that happens. Usually they are not bad things, but you will want to be able to call and reach somebody.
I actually had that problem of my stitches being rejected to my tissue's and I had 2 csf leak's. I wouldn't worry about this. They say it only usually happens to 10 to 15 percent of surgery. I have never won the lottery LOL but I was in that percent rate. As Selma said just keep an eye on her getting up in a hurry, vomiting. My head when you felt it (very lightly) my head felt like it was a balloon because the fluid was building up in the back of my head. I also suggest you to ask the nurses in the hospital because they are the ones who really see what is happening and probably could help you with the symptom's to watch for. I know your little girl is young, but that will be an advantage when it comes to healing. They bounce back better than we old ones do. It is just going to be hard for you watching her go through this, but your a wonderful mom and I know she will be taken good care of. Do you have a surgery date set? Let us know. Your in my chiarian prayers.
Hi...one way to help with the rejection issues is to check for Ehlers-danlos first....those with it run a higher risk of rejection of ne foreign matter or materials...My NS uses a glue and sterri strips to help avoid the rejection issue.
A CSF leak is noted by feeling worse when upright...vomiting, sensitive to light , sound....
Sometimes there is a pouch of CSF that collects.....or it is seen on the bed linens ect....
It is normal for there to be some pain or nausea and vomit from meds, but this is if it continues....beyond a reasonable time frame.
I hope this helps : )
