Chiari on CT vs MRI

My chiari was originally found on my initial CT Scan after my doctor thought I had a mild stoke. Is this the case for any one else? So far from the post I've read on here, most were discovered in an MRI which mine was also confirmed by later. Just a bit concerned that it's more advanced than my medical providers realize.

Frankie-
I hope this helps. I had the same symptoms (stroke like symptoms) but commonly doctors do a CT Scan first to confirm or deny if their is an emboli or bleed on the CT scan and often follow up with 24-48 hrs with an MRI in the event of a stroke. This is testing procedures in most facilities. So it is common that people that present with your symtpoms get a CT first. whereas many others may have presented with other symptoms such as seizures, Severe migraines, dizzyness, nerve pain etc where their primary will order an outpatient MRI to look further into a diagnosis. Hope this helps.

Mine was found doing a CT Scan from Stroke like symptoms.  I had a case of Bells Palsy.  The doctor asked what happen, I started to explain and he asked if he could do a CT Scan and that is when he found it.  He got me appointment and then came and talked to me about it.  He explained it to me what it was and when I told him about the pain down my arm he said that is not normal part with Bells Palsy.  If you want to read my journal you can.  It has been 2 years since my surgery and It has been wonderful.  It took awhile to get used to things again but fine.  If you got any question ask away if I can answer I will try.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is possible that u r not alone with the stroke like conditions/symptoms....I know many have stated they went to the ER with stroke like symptoms, just not sure how many may have been DX'd  at that point....

By ur conditions being "advanced" I am not sure what u mean....but it is possible for u to have Drs that do not take this conditions seriously....so I would advise u get to a true Chiari specialist.....

See the list of Drs in the Health Pages the list is not a referral nor an endorsement....it is only meant as a starting place for u to research Drs....the list was compiled by the members here of Drs they have been to and liked....we advise u to visit a few Drs and compare what u r told....educate urself so u will know the right Dr when u meet them....and last, be advised u may have to travel to get to one.....

I'm not sure I understand your question ... you've had an MRI since your initial CT scan that you were diagnosed from?  So they should have a good idea of your condition.  I have a pacemaker.  It's MRI safe but only one machine in a 60 mile radius can scan me and it's EXPENSIVE (about $1600) so I had a CT after surgery instead, and it gave my neurosurgeon the information he needed.  To a good neurosurgeon, neurologist, neuroradiologist, both are fine ... it all depends on who is looking.
