Have you ever been told?

Have you been told that there isn't anything they can do for the headaches exept surgery, but they don't feel surgery is the answer? Just wondering if anyone is on any pain medications for the headaches. The NL I saw said there isn't any thing to help. It is so hard to live everyday with a constant headache.

Oh yeah!  I had surgery with a ounce of hope that some of the pain would go!  That I could laugh again with out a painful consequence!  NOPE!  sorry to say that didn't happen!  

I pray that there is more research and answers and something happens for us all!

I had doctors tell me lots of crazy stuff before I had surgery.  I think it would just be easier if they'd tell us that they don't know how to fix it, instead of saying there's nothing to be done.  There might be something that would work, they just don't know.  Before my surgery, I was taking Topamax, which helped some with the headaches.  I also took a couple of rounds of steroids a month and I felt better on the steroids, although I know that a lot of people can't tolerate the side effects of the steroids, for me, it really helped with the pressure in my head.

I agree with Selma, you really need to find a doc who is informed about CM, so many of them just don't know much about it and for whatever reason, they won't just say that.

Hi and welcome to the chiari forum.

Surgery does not always help...and it is best to get this assessment from a true chiari specialist as they r better qualified to determine how surgery may benefit u.

We do have a thread here with names to help u start ur research.

And ur question, have u eve been told.....ummmm yes.

This is what many drs tell us...and y it is sooooooooo important to find a chiari specialist.
