Thats true, I was in a car accident at work and I called the NS my NL referred me to, and they tell me its debated trauma makes chiari symptomatic, I know better I had NONE of these symptoms before accident!! Never even heard of chiari!! Therefore for treatment, no 1 and legal reasons no. 2, I am going to noone less than a chiari specialist!!

Hi...not all well known medical centers have a dr/NS that is a chiari specialist...they may have a dr that can do a chiari surgery, but u want a true chiari specialist to handle this for u.....

Many of us do need to travel to get to a chiari dr, and I would rather travel and get the proper care, then go to a fancy  center and have  a dr that is not as experienced with this condition.

I am looking for a neurologist at John Hopkins Medical Center.I would prefer to go there. My doctor wants to send me to a neurologist first, to find out what they will say.

Hi and welcome to the chiari forum.

It means they do not treat chiari...plain and simple...put in crazy terms.....but, many medical  locations do not treat all medical conditions as they r not equipped with the proper staff or MRI machines....

Hello and Welcome.

I'm not exactly sure what they mean either but my best guess is that they are saying that they don't have the resources to deal with a condition like Chiari. If that is the case, then they are doing you a favor in not being able to treat you because it is REALLY important to have a NS who specializes with Chiari. This can be a controversial condition and you will receive vastly different pieces of information depending on what Dr you talk to. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by going to a specialist right away. We have a link here to specialist that members have used and liked, I hope that there is one on it near to you. Please make sure you do a little research to find the one that is right for you.

I wish you all the luck in finding the right NS...never hesitate to get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion if you are not feeling comfortable with what they have to say.

Hello and welcome!  I am assuming that you are in NC also.  I am not sure what that means unless they just dont have a doctor there who is comfortable with this illness.  I see Dr Rosner in Hendersonville.  He is pretty awesome and does specialize in Chiari.

Good luck to you.
