Thanks! The first brain surgery happened so fast, I never thought to try to put things to a halt for a second opinion. At least I have the time to do that this time.
I think that's a great idea! Totally agree with selma hear them both out and then make your decision! Maybe if "Dr. shop" then they will get the idea that we don't have to take what they say as law and we do have other options! Good for you! Keep us posted!

I agree u have to hear both out and then deciede which one u feel comfortable with...whom u really trust.
Dr #1 has a great rep in chiari circles.....and is in the midst of a study that hopefully will help us all.
I know some may call it dr shopping, but as u said it is ur brain and u must find the dr u feel at ur best intrests at heart and is the most experienced for this particular surgery.

Surgeon's office called, I call him surgeon #2. He did my first brain surgery for my cavernous malformation and did a great job on that! It is said that he has done Chiari surgeries, when asked how many, his office said Many!
They said he is ready to see me. I asked why? LOL! Receptionist was thrown off and said "because you need to be seen"
My motive is this. I have Dr. Iskander whom is supposed to be a Chiari specialist, he headed their conference last year and is a big researcher. Madison, WI has a Chiari clinic. So of course I do want to be seen my him. Problem is he accepts 4 patients per month. He accepted my case and will see me Nov 4th. I called him surgeon #1.
So my plan is this, see surgeon #1 on Nov 4th and made surgeon #2's appointment for November 5th! Neither know that I'm two timing them!
It's my brain, I'm just being cautious. After reading some nightmare stories, Im a bit freaked out!
Keep us posted & let us know when your surgery will be...we will all be pulling for you.
I am so glad that you are being properly diagnosed, and treated accordingly. Please let us know how your appointment goes.
Blessings,
Rebecca
What does that mean? Huh? LOL
There is what was missing from ur first post....the CSF flow studies demonstrate ABNORMAL synchronous bidirectional flow with slightly elevated CSF flow velocities at the foramen magnum.
I figured for how it looked the flow had to be abnormal...I am not a dr, but it looks very tight in there.
Sure it all seems foreign to me:
The cerebellar tonsils extend 6mm below the foramen magnum
The CSF flow studiesdemostrate synchronous bidirectional flow. The CSF flow velociteties above and below the foramen magnum are elevated at 7.3 and 5.9 cm/sec.
IIMPRESSION:
1. Chiari one malformation
2. Stableright fontal lobe encephalomalacia
3. The CSF flow studies demonstrate abnnormal synchronous bidirectional flow with slightly elevated CSF flow velocities at the foramen magnum
Hi jorlex137
Well it looks like you are making some progress at last.
You are I assume now a candidate for surgery.
That will be the next step, to get this scheduled, I presume this is what he means by “they'd be calling me today or tomorrow to get you in”. you have had surgery similar to this in the past so you will know the pre opp procedures..
The best of luck with the next phase of your journey
Ray
U deff look like a typical chiari with overcrowding.....
May I ask can u post what the reports says exactly?
I know that the findings r what they r foucused on, but sometimes u find more info inthe body of the report.
