Staples coming out - what to expect

Short notice question - my appointment to have my staples out is in a few hours. Wondering if they numb the area or not - should I take a pain med before I go? Why do I always think of these questions at the last minute! :)

No worries.  It's a piece of cake.  You won't even know they are taking them out.  Let us know how you do.

I didn't think that it hurt it all.  My NS used a pericranial graft (instead of bovine) to patch my dura so I had a really long incision (and lots of staples).  I was also a bit nervous about it, but it really wasn't bad.  The P.A. just plucked them out and there was only a slight amount of pulling on the staples that had started to scab (and even still, I didn't find it painful).  I think that relative to the surgical pain I had already endured, the staple part was a piece of cake!  -Then again, I was still taking pretty heavy pain meds so I'm sure that helped me not to notice any discomfort.  If you're still nervous, I would take some pain meds about an hour before your appointment just to be safe.  Good luck - you'll do well I'm sure.  : )
