MRI Report

.I have put in for my son's records.. but still waiting. Things move very slowly over here.  Today I got a sneak look at my son's  file. He had an EEG (Showed a lot of seizure activity while he slept. Anyway after the EEG we were sent back to his ward and given his file to bring back with us.. now how could I not take a peek. I saw the result from the MRI he had done in February. It said..
Evidence of Febrile Convulsion (I asked was there evidence and I was told no)
6mm Herniation. No obvious obstruction
Slight Prominence of Central Canal from C6 to level approx T4.
Because of this a Neurosurgeon referral is recommended.

Do you think a 'slight prominece' is a shrink? or the start of a shrink? They didn't refer him on to a NS.

Hi Jackie.
There is a lot of confusion around Hydromyelia, Syringomyelia and Presyrinx state. Some Doctors say we have a central canal, others say we dont and some say we are born with one but it closes just after we are born.
I think you need to ask your NS to clarify this "Prominence of Central Canal" finding (When you get the MRI report) or ask your GP what this means.

Is your DS still in hospital?

Hi,

I know our more experienced peeps will be checking in with their helpful words... but I'm here to pipe in!  I have "residual central canal" also (also known as Hydromyelia).  My NS told me that we all have the central canal as we're developing in-utero.  Most people's will dissipate by the time they're ten years old.  And, for some of us, we're left with "residual central canal".  He told me it won't change, or cause any problems for me.  It sounds like it is much more benign than having a syrinx (I think this is what you meant when you said shrink.)  Also, mine is visible from approximately C5 to T1-T2 level.

So, I hope this helps you with at least one of the pieces of your puzzle.  Good luck.
