The big issue here is not many Drs are well informed or experienced with Chiari and how it affects us and how to manage us to help us feel better.
Chiari can be congenital or acquired....if acquired it may be more likely referred to low lying tonsils, however the symptoms and treatment is the same.
Many that have a congenital Chiari are told u have it since birth so it will not affect u....that is crap, as we all know if u have an issue that continues or if u always had it it bcomes "normal" u do things to avoid that pain that comes when u do certain things....and most are things u do not have daily conversations about...pain with strain....even that has so many diff possible realities....it is frustrating that Drs r so glib about those of us with chiari and what we r dealing with.
Going forward always ask for copies of ALL testing and the reports to be sent to u....and if u remember the facility that did ur original studies they should have the copies on microfilm, that is how I got some of mine that my Dr did not have....u can call in advance to ask how to go about getting them along with a copy of the report.

Those with Chiari can be prone to other issues like autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and connective tissue disorders like Ehlers-Danlos...
Keeping in mind our sinuses do get affected as well, we get post nasal drip, acid reflux, and many others...
U need a true Chiari specialist to review ur MRI...do get a copy of the MRI on disk and request a copy of the report too.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum,
Yes, this can affect hearing and many other bodily functions....breathing, heart palps....
Did u ever have surgery or follow MRI's since ur initial DX?
