newly diagnosed

on 4/10 my 65 year old Mom presented to the ER with what we thought were stroke symptoms... were we shocked to have the CT show Chiari - we will be following up with an MRI to find out the extent of progression. I had never heard of this, but after researching for hours yesterday and reading the comments in this forum it confirms lots of things she has dealt with for years but we attributed to other things but seem to all be related to this! we are in Texas so need to find someone here whose speciality is this - very overwhelming at this point.....

Welcome to the forum,

Chiari is a very overwhelming condition so please know that you are not alone! You are a great daughter for doing all this research for your mom, she is very lucky! Family support is so very important while dealing with this and it looks like your mom has a lot of that.
I'm so glad that you have learned from our posts, please feel free to ask a question anytime.
I wish you the best in finding a good specialist, let us know how things go!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Unfortunately, many of us have had symptoms  treated as individual issues and never connected them together...which prolongs getting a proper dx.....I was 48 when finally dx'd and I had issues going back to grade school age.

Below is a link to a list of Chiari drs that members of this forum have been to and liked..please research all drs to find the right dr for u...there r a few drs listed for TX.

We r happy to have u join our little family here, so sorry the reason u had to seek us out.
