Autistic Son sleep with ex-husband

by theycallmemom, Jun 16, 2009 07:16PM
I'm a recently divorced mom with custodial custody of my pre-teen son.  He is highly functional autistic (closely resembles Ausbergers)and ADHD.  When they go to their dads on the weekend they sleep in his bed.  Some research I have done is that this is a developmental milestone for kids and kids need to learn on a consistant bases how to master this "skill".  When they are at my house they sleep in their seperate rooms.  Autistic children sometimes act 1/2 their cronical age.  I have concerns that this is causing issues with his Normal Child Development.  What are your thoughts?

You mention 'they'. Is there another child in addition to the son with the PDD-spectrum condition? What ages are the children?

Unless there are obstacles that can not be surmounted, such as low income necessitating having persons share a single bed, the sleeping arrangement your describe is not healthy. The children should sleep in their own beds.
