My niece has a 4 1/2 year old who mostly lives off of hot dogs, bacon, peanut butter and ritz crackers, and chicken nuggets. She likes some candy and cookies. She drinks no milk, only a couple of the yogurt smooties a day. She eats NO FRUIT (only country time lemonade), but does drink Juicy Juice. She eats NO VEGETABLES. Will not even taste!! She only likes yeast rolls..will not touch any other kind of bread.
She was an acid reflux baby and from 4mths to 1 year was on prolisec?? or some type of med for acid reflux. She ate well as a baby, then at around age 2 1/2, her Nana had to FORCE baby food. She managed to get one jar of vege/meat a day. Then that summer, her Mom did not force her and she only ate bacon/sausage that summer. Since then, the doctor told her that kids go through this. But it has been two years and the child shows no indication of changing her eating habits (except she won't eat sausage now). She is in the lower 10% of her age group for weight (only around 28 lbs). Yet her peditrician still says everything is ok. Just keep taking that sweet, gummy vitamin. He has not run blood tests nor other tests.
My concern is she is getting too much of bad fats, no vegetables and will have health problems long term. My niece accepts whatever the doctor says and dones without questioning. Children are dying from cancer and I am convinced it is because we are feeding them junk and over processed food and chemicals in the perservatives.
Anyway, my niece thinks I am a "worrier". I hope that is the case. If we should be concerned, please help me convince her it is time to try someone/something different.
Thank you.
