pulled or torn muscle

I work out regularly so I have pulled a muscle before. But Ive had a pain in my right glute that shoots down my leg and especially painful in my calf muscle. When I first stand up after sitting I have to stand for a bit till the excruciating pain subsides, once I walk a little it feels better. Its extremely painful I ve tried muscle creams and sprays even a hot pack but its not getting any better. Could it be a torn muscle not a pulled one? Thank you

Wow thank you for your response. It does make sense I have been told before by an osteopath that I have a rotated pelvis but it had a different kind of pain so it never occured to me that it was the same thing. What is an evidence based chiropractor as opposed to a regular chiropractor just would like to know so that when I look for one I know the right one? Thank you again.

Thank you for writing. I'm inclined to believe it's unlikely a torn muscle. You could have an unbalanced spine or pelvis, causing muscles to allow for abnormal/asymmetrical movements.

This could progress to irritation of spinal nerves showing up symptomatically as the radiating pain that you've been experiencing.

I'd investigate one or both of these options:

1) Consult with an evidence-based chiropractor to evaluate the spine and pelvis.
2) Look into a yoga class, and see if the stretching poses provide any relief.

It's important not to think this will just "go away on its own." It won't hurt to look into getting it taken care of professionally.
