My Complicated Chlamydia

by dazed33, Jul 15, 2008 01:07PM
Back in November I was diagnosed with both Chlamydia and Trichamonas genital infections.  For treatment, I was recieved a single dosage of azithromycin for the chlamydia and a 7-day treatment of metronidazole for the trichimonas.
However, a month or so after treatment, I began to experience abnormal vaginal bleeding. This convinced me to return to the clinic that I was diagnosed.  The nurse practitioner decided to check me for trich via wet mount and informed me that many women show resistance to treatment for trich and have to endure a second treatment.  During that visit, I informed that I have no new sex partners or encounters since my treatment.  She said she wanted to test me for gonorrhea and chlamydia again, just in case. The wet mount showed that I still had Trich and I was giving a stronger dosage of metronidazole. A week later I am informed that I am positive for chlamydia! The Nurse Practitioner told me that I must of been exposed to the infection again!  However, I know for a fact that I havent had any new sexual partners or encounters.  I had and still have been celibate since my original treatment back in November! Again, she gives me the single dosage of azithromycin.  I'm not satisfied and try to get a double or prolonged dosage.  My argument was, "if this dosage failed the first time, then it may fail again!" It just didnt make sense to me, I recieved a stronger dosage for my 2nd treatment of trich so why not the chlamydia? She finally supplemented my treatment with a 7-day treatment of doxycline. She told me that she had never seen azithromycin fail when treating Chlamydia.

Should I be worried or go along with the clinic? Could I have an antibiotic-resistant strand of chlamydia? I know for a fact that the treatment must have failed! I haven't had sex of any kind since the initial diagnosis and treatment! What should I do? Could there be a relation between failure in curing the Trich and failure in curing the Chlamydia? What should I do?

Hi there -

If this treatment doesn't work for the trich, ask for tindamax.  Its a new medication, and we are now finding flagyl-resistant trich.

I don't know what experiences your practitioner has, but I've seen zithromax fail, but its not common.  The doxy should work for you.

Follow up in a month to re-test for both, and good luck.  I'm sure its frustrating.

Thank you for your response. Yes, hopefully the Doxy will work and thank you for the advice concerning Trich. Hopefully my second treatment took care of it but I will ask for Tindamax if it hasnt!
