High cholesterol level

Hi all,

I'm very worried about my fiance as he is only 23 years old but has been diagnosed with high cholesterol level.
Following are his statistics:
246  Serum Cholesterol

164 LDL,

43 hdl direct

242 Serum Triglycerides

VLDL Cholesterol 40

HDL Ratio 5.7

He is on meds now for one month. But i'm really worried about him.
He is neither overweight nor does his diet consist of rich or dairy food much.

Please if anyone has any information regarding this, do reply.

Thanks

Your fiance is very fortunate to discover this at such a early age.
Otherwise he may have gone years without attending to the problem.

You can see how the meds work,  but it might do him good to completely alter his diet as well.
Well beyond the usual adjustments that are often suggested.

In some instances substantial changes in diet can bring the situation under control without the use of meds and in some people they need to do both meds and radical dietary changes.  See which ways works best for you.
This is a lifelong approach,  not something you do for a few months.

You might read the work of the following doctors who advise on the more involved dietary changes.   All of them have wide followings.
Dr. Joel Fuhrman
Dr.  John McDougall
Dr.  Caldwell Esselstyn
Dr.  Neal Barnard
Dr.  Dean Ornish

John McDougall has a website with a very busy discussion board where many people discuss the exact problem you portray in your fiance.
It is free.
Also he and the others have many free talks available on their sites and even more on Youtube.   Hours of free information even if you don't buy one of their books.
You and your fiance can listen and learn.
However the changes will not just be dancing around the edges.
More like a complete change of how you eat.

If I had such a condition I'd certainly consider this approach for my long term health outlook.
You might look into the changes that former president Bill Clinton made in his diet.   He follows a couple of those above named doctors.
