Acute Kidney Failure Diagnosis

Sorry for any repeat, My 2 yr. old Standard Poodle was just diagnosed with Acute Kidney failure. He was absolutely fine one day & the next day at death's door! He was in the hospital for 3 days on IV fluids, which they had to stop because they were affecting his heart. His CR #'s got as high as 6.8, not sure on the BUN. But they let me take him home with SUBQ fluids & antibiotics & few other things. His CR dropped to 4.4 & BUN 88 the day he came home. 2 days later his CR dropped to 2.2, not sure where the BUN is. We've spent $6000+ so far & not a single test has come back positive as to what caused this. They're thinking it's a bacteria called Leptospirosis, which will hopefully be confirmed or not with his next blood test in a week. They say he's operating on 25% kidney function & we won't know if there's permanent damage for several weeks. His energy level is back, he's eating. I'm cooking food for him now, especially since I really don't know if food did this to him or bacteria. I'm just sick. All that I've read here is a bit discouraging. Am I going through all of this just to watch him die?

Hi. My 16 year old Sheltie collapsed back in October 2015, was given 5 days to live.  Numbers all off the scale and having seizures. I had her in the vets on IV for over two weeks, visiting three times a day to feed and walk her.  It's been a long hard road in the six months since with ups and downs but she is getting better and stronger every day and living a good life. Google up "five leaf pet pharmacy" and take a leap of faith - it worked for us and I could not be more grateful to those people.  They told me at the time that they get results with about 80 percent of dogs, guess it depends very much on the dog and circumstances.

Follow their program to the letter, make sure you use all certified organic foods, if your dog won't eat use powdered ginger for nausea and apple cider vinegar for the tummy, put the food in a blender with filtered water and then syringe the liquid. Do whatever it takes to keep your dog strong and give her the best chance to fight whatever is going on.  Regular exercise and the water therapy also is absolutely essential.   Wishing you the very best.
