Is it more than HEARTBURN?

I am a 29 year old male.  I'm 5'11 220 pounds and have had no health issues in the past.  A couple of weeks ago I started getting a pressure in my chest.  I went in and the doctor said that it was esophigitus and gave me something called flomodine or flomadil (something like that).  I took it for a week, then stopped as he prescribed.  About a few days after, I started getting a sharp pain on the side of my chest, under my left breast, and what feels like under the rib cage.  The pain started pretty slight.  But the last few days have gotten worse.  the last few nights I have woken up at 3am because of it, it has not gone away.

I saw a nurse practitioner and I forgot to tell her this:  It is only really painful when I take a breath that is more than normal breathing.  During normal breathing, i feel discomfort, but not pain.  She said that it is reflux/heartburn.  But i didn't tell her that a deep breath is painful.  Could they have misdiagnosed this pain?  Could something have been damaged in my lung?

Thanks

The information provided strongly suggests that their diagnosis of esophagitis, due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was correct.  The pain is typically that described as, "heartburn", but the pain may be atypical and have a different quality to it.  However, pain with a deep breath, is not usually a symptom of esophagitis.  It would be wise to convey this information to your doctor.  He/she will definitely want to get a chest x-ray and may deem it appropriate to do additional tests to evaluate your lungs, the tissue that tightly encloses the lungs that is called the pleura, and maybe your esophagus.

Hello there , im a 31 y/o female , and what u just described is what i was having , They told me it was GERD  and prescribed me zantac 300 . I also was diag before this  with asthma and COPD  . Last week had to go to E.R. and i had an upper respatory infection with bronchitis . My doc told me that he hasnt heard any wheezing in my lungs . But i also have read that there is a thing called silent chest ,which could be a dangerious thing . Ive been having pains in my left side of my chest and when i take a deep breath it hurts and when i sneeze it kills my chest !!! in one week i  have dropped 5lbs w/o even trying. and i was on antibiotics and prednasone for the upper respatory infection and bronchitis . But i still feel like my head is gonna explode i feel stuffy , My heart burn has felt better with the zantac . you might wanna go back to your doctor and tell them you are  having a bit of a problem when taking deep breaths . You probley have GERD . Which can cause SOB and if untreated for a long time damage your airways and your esophagise from the acid . Best of luck and let me know your outcome ..............2young
