Small Bilateral Plueral Effusion, Serious? Second Opinion?

Is small bilateral effusion serious? I was diagnosed by xray. Should I try anything for second opinion or is a xray diagnosis fairly concrete? Are treatments of small bilateral effusion risky? And finally, what is best treatment option? By the way I have no symptoms relating to this diagnosis. Thanks for any replies, especially from medical professional.

Thank you doctor. I was really worried about the possibility of Thorocentesis. Do you know if a reaction to Penicillin VK can cause the small effusion and problems with veins on the hands? Thanks for your expertise Doctor

Hi!
Usually small bilateral pleural effusions do not need any active management like fluid removal. Also usually a wait and watch policy is involved. Yes, X-rays are quite diagnostic of an effusion. However, you will need other tests to rule out causes related to lung, heart, kidney, and hypothyroidism. Please consult your doctor for further evaluation. Take care!
