I had the same symptoms started after a repiratory illness at the peak of H1N1 season last winter. Symptoms (rubbing, crackly) feeling upon deep inspiration lasted for at least 6 months. I had an extensive workup too. All negative.
For the past 2.5 years, I have had the exact same pattern that you describe... lung crackling on deep breath only while lying down on my back. It also clears up immediately after it crackles and then I have to wait about 30 seconds or so for the crackles to return on deep breath again.
I also do not have it while lying on my chest or standing upright. I've tried to describe this to my doctors but so far, no one has even heard of this particular pattern.
To make this worse, my doctors "cannot" hear the lung crackles that I describe. You did not mention if your doctors can hear the crackles. They told me that it could be cartildge rubbing againt each other so they wouldn't be able to hear that. But then again, they can't understand why it would only be while lying down on my back. Basically, they have no idea what is going on.
I've seen a cardiologist, pulmonologist, endocrinologist, etc etc. To date, I have no diagnosis.
I would greatly appreciate any insight.
Thank you
Perhaps you have some mucus plugs that just move up and down, but not enough to come up and out. It may be out of the reach of a bronchoscopy. Can't think of any exam/test worth the cost to further investigate. Happening on one side and noticable when laying down might just be pressure from the lung tissue laying over the plugged area pressing down on the area. Can't think of anything much to do about it but to keep up with fluids - it might loosen it up enough to finally be coughed up higher into the lung tissue and then coughed out. Or it might just dry up on its own.
Anybody have any more comments on this? I have the same thing that started randomly for the past two months. Only when lying down after several minutes then clears after one full deep breath.
I have the same thing. Doctors can find nothing. Very scary and frustrating! Only when wake in the AM or wake in the middle of the night and take a deep inhale. It sounds like I'm congested but only for the first inhale. Throughout the day, if I am very relaxed, it will sometimes happen again. Only when my lungs have been at rest for a period. I'm not sure what to do. I keep thinking it will lead to something more serious but so far, it has stayed the same for 9 months. Chest X-Ray and breathing test are both normal. Please let me know if you find out anything. I will do the same. Thanks
II know it's been a few years on this post. But has anyone had any updates. I'm having the same issues.
I have the same thing. It’s been happening since I was in a car accident 8 years ago. Haven’t gotten an answer from doctors. But I seem to be fine other than the paranoid feeling of have vague symptoms of many possible illnesses that can effect the torso area.
If any can shed light in this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Sometimes I think it’s just my spine cracking.. perhaps my lung was moved during the car accident.
