I think you should take your hospital records to a lung doctor and have him take a complete history of your family as well as you. Alternatively you can gather up all the pertinent information and ask a doctor here at MedHelp. But I think a trip to a specialist is better because you can converse with him.

i had a p.e. in 2000  was put on coumadin ( blood thinner)  in 2003 i had another clot..they said it was the same 1 from 2000..if your on a blood thinner..and your inr is between 2.0-3.0  then its unlikely to happen..are you  wearing support hose??  i want to understand whats  involed here...embolism's arnt  in the family jeans...mine was caused  from 2 negative blood proteins..im on these for life  ..   my dad lost is right leg 15 yrs ago  due to p.a.d.  im at rick as well..but the blood thinners or luvnox would prevent this....or a greenfield filter they go threw  your groin or juggler veins to insert this in your cava...this will catch a clot..its like a little umbrella....pm   me on this   james   tku

It's difficult to say without knowing a handful of variables.  Was it a blod clot or other type of embolism?  Was much mentioned regarding secondary causes?  Were you started on anticoagulant therapy?  How much of the lung was affected and to what degree?
