These test do not reflect whether or not you have developed liver disease. Your liver enzymes (ALT-AST) look to be close in range so no reason for concern there. Your platelet count is on the lower end of the range of 150-400 yet again still no reason for concern.
Your CBC and CMP lab test are used to determine if Imaging or biopsy is necessary at which point your hepatologist will make your diagnosis. I hope this helps.
Take care,
Randy
my ultrasound 2 years ago showed signs of fat on liver and my ct scan 1.5 years aho was completely normal for liver and other organs. my problem was due to being a little overweight (and now I am normal), I afarid to take liver biopsy or fibroscan. i live in a foreign country and i am lonely.
THANKS rpooo.
A fibroscan is non invasive but more difficult to find.
A liver biopsy is considered the gold standard for determining if you have cirrhosis. It is the only way you will know either fibroscan if you can find a location that uses one or liver biopsy.
Good luck
Lynn
this is what a liver expert told me :(
"I have taken some time to review your nicely organized data. I believe that you have early but definite cirrhosis as evidenced by a slightly low platelet count but a normal albumin and INR levels. I think NAFLD is the correct diagnosis as evidenced by the return of AST and ALT and Bilirubin levels to normal with weight reduction through exercise and diet and slight relapse with return to a more sedentary life style. The pain was likely due to the distention of the liver capsule by fat. Your current discomfort appears to be irritable bowel syndrome with it relation to bowel movements. I would back off such frequent blood testing and continue to follow a good diet, and maintain your weight loss with exercise."
Not sure why you put a sad face :-(
Your doctors letter sounds very promising he said keep up the good work on diet and exercise. Yes you do have early cirrhosis it seems from the letter but by following your doctors advice of keeping up on your weight loss you should have at least some improvement in your liver and be able to live a long life.
So why the sad face is there something I am missing?
Good luck
Lynn
but this is another email from another liver expert:
"looking at your liver function, I am almost sure you do NOT have cirrhosis"
i went to emergency room and they did a blood test and now platelet count is 170. before it was 147. They checked my spleen also and said no enlargement. As a result, the doctor who scared me by the above email seems wrong.
the only way to know for sure is a liver biopsy blood tests cannot show severity of damage. however your results do not seem like someone with cirrhosis
Here are my results from March before I treated. I did not cure with sovaldi & Olysio so I guess they will be back to these soon. I have had cirrhosis since Jan 2008
ALT 78
AST 54
Platelet 90
Hopefully you don't have cirrhosis. Even if you were headed that way before due to your weight it looks like you may have significantly improved you liver health with your weight loss. Keep up the good work.
Here's to your continued good health
Lynn
thanks for your feedback but I am very angry to that doctor. In the middle of night I went to emergency. Without a liver biopsy he said definitely you have early cirrhosis. A scientist, a medical doctor should not behave so irresponsible and unscientific.
