I'm confused. Do you have a tear in your meniscus, or your hip? Or both? And what's a tear in your hip? As for the meniscus, there is no blood supply whatsoever in the meniscus except at the ends of the cartiledge, so it depends on where the tear is, how severe it is, etc. If it's not severe or at the edges only, you will be sent to physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that support the knee in the hope it will heal with reduced stress. In the beginning, treatment is ice, elevation, and rest. You can read this on the web if you google meniscus tear, but the only way you can get a diagnosis is to get an MRI and see an orthopedist or physiatrist, and even then they often can't tell if it isn't a large tear without looking inside. If the pain isn't that bad, most docs will try conservative treatment before recommending surgery, though orthopedists are known for wanting to cut -- it is how they make the big bucks, so try to find one who isn't gung-ho for riches. Good luck.
meniscal tear is typically nonsurgical, and may include rest, ice, compression and elevation. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications may be recommended for pain. The meniscus has a rich blood supply so the potential exists for it to heal on its own, especially if one has incurred a small tear on the outer edge.
If the tear doesn’t heal, you may need surgery. Depending on the injury, your doctor may perform arthroscopy, a minimally invasive approach, to repair the damage.
HIP TEAR
pain relievers and physical therapy could help. If that doesn't work your doctor could do arthroscopic surgery, surgeons can remove loose fragments from within the joint and trim or repair the hip labral tear
