Hello and welcome to the forum.
Lisinopril can definitely cause a cough. It occurs in about 10% of people who take it (more commonly in african-americans). While not dangerous, it is usually quite annoying--a hacking cough typically without and mucus production.
On the other hand, CHF is a common cause of cough too. So it would be important to try to distinguish whether the cough is related to the med or to the CHF (ie due to fluid in the lungs). However, if you only started to cough after starting the lisinopril, I would suspect it could be the drug. In which case, I would switch you to a "cousin" drug of lisinopril (one of many that fall under the class of drugs called ARBs---for angiotensin receptor blockers).
If the cough is tolerable, you might want to wait until Friday to discuss with the cardiologist.
All the best,
Dr. Rich
Thank you. I will wait till Friday as it is tolerable. I know nothing about CHF and I apparently will be learning quite a lot now. I am a 54 yo obese Caucasian female with no other risk factors and all blood tests normal. I had a echo and a nuclear stress test and my appointment with my new cardiologist is this Friday. Thank you
