Pacemaker and Ejection Fraction 20%

My 81 year old mother just had her pacemaker replaced.  She is totally dependent on it.l  Her ejection fraction came back at 20% andd her Bnp blood test 2400.  She had to be rushed to hospital, as she was having issues.  Her breathing has been labored since coming back home, on 40 mg lasix daily.  Also she has lost her voice - down to a whisper.  Can a person go on very long with all of this?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A Bnp blood test above 900 indicates a severe heart failure. With a Bnp at 2400 and EF at 20%, your grandmother would need more assistance like an implantable cardiac debrillator (ICD).  This can be  a life saving situation for your grandmother.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I can only speak from experience.

My EF is 15-20% and most days I find it hard to talk due to being weak.  My breathing is labored and it seems it takes all the energy I have just to keep breathing.  Perhaps your mother would benefit from oxygen.
