Pulmonary Hypertension

How accurate is an echocardigram in determining that you have pulmonary hypertension? My doctor says I have it because the pressure in my lungs is twice what it should be. He put me on Bystolic . How successful should that be?

I too was diagnosed with PH. My pressure was only 38-42. I guess I am in denial. My blood pressure has gone up and staying there. I have gained weight, 10 lbs in 2 mos. and ankles and lower extremities are still with 2-3+ edema when I get up in am. I tend to have a reason for each. I think deep down I am afraid. I keep telling myself the docs are wrong and truly they may be. When I get SOB or have chest pain I get scared. When I have CP I will take a couple of aspirin. I know you think I am being stupid, but I just will not accept diagnosis at this point. Do you think pressure is indicative of PH? MD wanted to do heart cath and I said no. Afraid of what it will show. Just will keep on trying to deal with Bipolar and orthopedic problems. That's about all I can deal with now.  Madlyn

I also have Pulmonary Hypertention and even more accurate than an echocardigram is an cardiac catherization, which they go up through the groin and directly measure the pressures in your lungs. That is  the most accurate reading,. My pressures are above 80 and I was diagnosed in 1997. also have heart disease and COPD. I am a real mess. Thank god as sick as I am and believe me I am pretty much housebound. I have a decent attitude toward this. I always say these were the cards I was dealt and I will play them to the best of my ablitity. Good luck to you
