Tissue and Mechanical Valve

by Ekta14, Jan 30, 2009 06:31PM
My dad was 66 and had a tissue valve replacement in 1981 and later in 2001 he got another valve replacement with Mechanical. He was a surgeon and lived a very active life. He was also on Warfarin after his second surgery. Last December, he had sore throat for three weeks and one day he vomitted and in like 15 mintues he passed away. I am not surre if his tissue valve failed or something else.

His tissue valve could have failed or he could have had a heart attack in the widow maker artery or it could have been a heart aneursym.  Tissue valves last from 7 to 20 years depending on the condition of the heart and the age of the person.  The tissue valves ages with the person.  My cousin died instantly of an heart aneursym.  He was at a convenience store and the clerk asked if he had found everything.  He said yes and down he went and died instantly.  No warning.  Sorry for your loss of your dad. I just lost my mom last September from cardiac shock due to heart surgery.  Take care.

I had the aortic valve replaced when I was 30.  It was a mechanical valve.  I am now 63 and have done well with warfarin.  I felt so much better after the surgery and did well for years.  The valve is still working well.  I continued to work and support my family for 40 years.  My problem was the results of childhood rheumatic fever.  In the past four years other things have gone South:  (CHF; EF 20-30%; leaking mitral valve, etc).   Everyday is a blessing.  I am thankful for what I can get.
