I'm 19 and I've had a ICD for over 5 years. my doctor has been telling me about the new one and he really seems to think that it's a good alternative. I haven't heard anything bad..

Hi, some of the specialized institutions are implanting this ICD device. The new ICD it's called a subcutaneous (under the skin) ICD – or SICD for short. An SICD works in the same way as an ICD, but it's inserted just under the skin of the chest (outside of the ribcage) and there are no leads placed into the heart. Complications are likely to be less as it is easily accessible and it can prevent complications such as wire-related injuries. Please discuss long term complications with your doctor before consenting for surgery. Regards.
