Once off bout of colitis is this possible?

I had a bout of severe colitis almost 4 year's ago.  I san the actual ulcerations on screen.  I was put on steroids and other pills (which I cannot remember) to take for life.  I took one month's supply of these tablets and then quit of my own accord.  I have never had a repeat since and have never taken any medication since.  Has anyone else had this and made this unusual recovery? wow, that's great that you have been symptom free for so long. did you make any changes to your diet or lifestyle as well? i have uc and had to stay on steroids for a few months to get to a safe point and i'm still on asacol now, but hoping to go off it if i can reach the point when the internal bleeding stops. as far as i know colitis can go into remission for the rest of your life so maybe you lucked out or there is always the chance that the doctors misdiagnosed through the colonoscopy (even better, right?) anyways, congrats on being symptom free for so long.... very exciting!
