Hello, my grandfather is 55 years old and had always been in great health until polyps were found in his colon. He got them removed then shortly after was told he needed surgery. He elected to do the labroscopic (spelling sorry) surgery as opposed to the open surgery. He did not recieve a single CT scan before the surgery so during the surgery the doctor slipped and ended up cutting him open and taking out 60% of his colon. Home from the hospital for 9 days he called the dr. saying he was in terrible pain but the dr. said to basically get over it. Three days after that he was rushed to the ER and was rushed in to have a second surgery because his colon was literally hangin out his anas. He now has a colostomy
, persistantly nauseated, and cannot eat but maybe a bowl of ceareal or two a day without throwing up. He has awful heartburn but was told not to take any antacids. Is there any reason he is having this much trouble with the recovery
Well, I'm not a doctor, but this doesn't sound normal at all to me based on what I know and have seen over the years.
I would not go back to see this surgeon again. It would be a good idea for your grandfather to go to his regular doctor--family doctor or internist and explain what's going on. They need to figure out what's causing him so much pain as well as the nausea, vomiting, etc. Don't delay, call today.
