hemorrhoidectomy 18 years after total colectomy

I am 38 years old and this coming Feb will be my 18th anniversary of my colectomy. I am writing today to ask about having an hemorrhoidectomy. I am concerned and hesitant because of all the work and discomfort I've had up to the surgery and during the healing process.

All and all I'd say my procedure was a 100% success. When I make the right decision with foods I eat I only go to the bathroom 3-5 times a day. I know what will cause problems and try and plan for it by combining foods I know help. The problem is that for the past 10 years I've had internal hemorrhoids with it getting more and more uncomfortable this past year. Frankly, I'm tired of the pain in my butt! I've read chronic diarrhea is a common cause of hemorrhoids - which fits my case perfectly.

However, despite wanting to get rid of them, I am also nervous of what to expect. I've (as a lot of us on this forum) am not wanting any other 'butt' issues. I just want it to be done. I have taken somewhat of a step by adding enough $$ to my flexible spending account for '09 to cover my co-payment - but I'm scared.

What can I expect if I have it done? Is it even an option? Should I just suck it up and buy stock in Prep H?

I appreciate any and all replies.

Thanks.
