Please help me,is it crohns....or something else

Hello my name is lauren,i'm female and i'm 20. For 5 months i've had chronic diarrhrea which sometimes has slime in it,i have lost just over 1stone since haveing this diarrhrea and i have now been put on Mesalazine ;pentasa; suppositories as they believe i have some sort of inflammation be it colitis or crohns etc. i was also put on Uniroid-HC as i got hemmeroids which caused me to bleed everytime i went toilet. the hemmeroids have now cleared up.i have also lost my appetite and sometimes get pains in my stomache which can be in the middle of my stomache or the right handside. i have had 3 stool tests one to check for bacteria which came back fine the second to check i have not become ill by takeing antibiotics which has come back fine and the third one to check for any sign of inflammotries which i have not got the results back for yet. i have also had blood tests done for; glucose,iron,liver/kidneys,blood count etc everything was fine apart from my iron so i was put onto ferrous glucose and i believe my blood count was abornmal which showed signs of either an infection or inflammorty which is why i have now been refered to a specialist whome i wont see until the 20th of april.i also had small cracks in my anus but they seems to be clearing up since given the suppositries.i was wondering if anyone has experinced the same symptoms and have been diagnosed and what they have diagnosed with and also what others may think i have....i believe when i see the specialist on the 20th i will also be booking a conoloscopy.thank you for your help

No need to be afraid of colonoscopy. I have had it today and see - I am ok. It was not that bad after all. They put you to sleep. The worst part is the day prior to examination, fasting, drinking only liquids and that TERRIBLE thing for cleansing, going to the toilet, Jesus, I went at leat 30 times. But just keep drinking "approved liquids" sip by sip that you do not dehydrate, that is the main thing. I am still not 100% sure what's wrong, the doc said ul colitis? Chron's? and put the qustions marks and finally decided to write coltis and diverticulosis, await for results from pathology.
I am a bit scared about my results. But, colonoscopy went well, just a bit of wind afterwards.
I am also watitng for the results of the biospsy of the breast and blood test for the recent surgery of the parathyroid gland. I think I have all possible and impossible diseases, can't talk about all of them, but I am still positive. I live on my own, imagine that, every time I come back home by taxi and feel a  bit embarressed that nobody can pick me up. Whenever I am feeling sort of better I am happy.

I am not an expert as I was only recently diagnosed with Crohn's, but you have all of the same symptoms that I do.  The Colonoscopy will confirm Crohn's or Colitis (or that you don't have it).  I was asleep for this proceedure so it did not hurt at all.  However, the night before you have to take 20 pills to clean you out, so that isn't so fun.  As I was just diagnosed (finally, after 13 yrs of symptoms) this month, I have only started taking Entocort three days ago so my symptoms haven't been relieved yet.  Knowing is always better than not knowing, because you have a base-line for future visits to your doctor and you're less likely to have extra blood tests and other extra yucky tests, over & over again.  I wish you luck.  Hydration is key.  Gaterade is helpful.  Weight loss is a major issue with these diseases.  Toast with peanut butter, plain chicken, anything for the protein is good too (not nuts though).  Keep us posted.

I went hospital yesterday to see the GI doctor,he did a rectal exam which looked 'fine' and prodded my stomache...which bluidy hurt lol.they also took more blood which is something i wasn't aware of them doing so i cried as i'm a big baby when it comes to needles

So i had my blood taken which i believe is for what i've had done before eg; celiac, iron, bone, blood count etc etc

i also have an appointment to have a endoscopy and a colonoscopy on the 12th of may. i also have to have a MRI scan but haven't got the date back for that yet.

my stool test for inflammatories came back today which the outcome was abnormal..so my family doctor is ringing the doctor i saw at the hospital with the results.

I want to thank you so much for your reply, lol yeah that's true it does help the sense of humour although sometimes i do get annoyed when i tell my friends and they laugh...because it's serious.my family doctor did say they'll probably book a conoloscopy but nothing has actualy been said or arranged as of yet,I agree with you on that i should watch what i'm eating as i'm going to be totaly honest and say i'm just eating as i normaly would not because i didn't know not to eat high in fibre food but because i LOVE my food lol

I was given uniroid HC ointment for the skin tag and internal hemmeroids/piles,weirdly the long 'taily' bit of my skin tag has fallen off by itself.....which i'm guessing is due to the friction of toilet pile and skin....niiicccee.

nasty smelling poo is now normal to me lol i just feel sorry for my friends toilet when i go to their house haha

I shall update you on what happened at the hospital on monday thank you again for your reply from lauren xxx

Re- your visit to the gastroenteroligist.

He/she'll probably examine you with an small instrument up the back passge, which he'll fill up with a bit of air in order to open the rectum so he can have a wee look.

I know this sounds horrific to the untrained ear/ imagination!! -but please, honestly, don't worry at all. It does not hurt one bit, just feels a little strange, (obviously, as it's not an everyday occurance is it).

He/she will also probably have a chat with you about the colonoscopy, and make arrangements for this with you.

If you're having trouble with any symptoms make sure you chat through some short term methods to help you beofre the colonoscopy, e.g. diet, asacol etc.

good luck x

Hey Lozzyroo,

Your symptoms sounds very much like mine when I was diagnosed with UC, nearly 3 years ago now.

Are you having a colonoscopy booked in anytime soon? This should tell you exactly what's wrong, so don't worry about anything now, -honestly.
I know how frightenning it is though, I remember when I first had the severe diarrhoea, bleeding and cramps, I was so scared because I knew nothing about UC or IBD - now i'm experienced in their delights so it doesn't bother me so much anymore, it's just a nusience.

You may already know this, but steer clear of really high fibre foods if you're having a 'flare up'. (pooing loads, bleeding, mucous etc. mm, nice..) I had no idea about this when I had my first episode, and ate as much 'all bran' cereal as possible, with the ignorant view that 'fibre was goign to help the diarrhoea'. I literally sat on the loo for about 12 hours, it was never-ending! (sorry). My poor flatmate had to buy loo-roll supplies and gave me cups of tea and messages from the doctor, through the bathroom door.

Ahh, good times at univeristy.

Re- your 'stalk' thingys, foam enemas are wonderfully effective for most problems in that area I think, (internal piles, inflamation, muscous, bleeding restricted to the rectum) -pretty weird at first, but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Look after yourself, drink lot's of water and gentle-ish exercise is a good idea.

And hey remember, all this is great for your sense of humour! ;)

Take care

I hope you talked to the dr and found out his thoughts on the skin tag.  I am wondering if it might be a fistula.

Let us know what you find out and best of luck.  The sooner you find out the better.

Good luck on your visit with the dr.  I know that it is scary, but the sooner you find out what is wrong the sooner the GI dr can treat it and get you back in remission.
Study what you can about UC and chrons so that when you see the dr you will know what questions to ask.  If you have UC or chrons ask the dr for a prescription for the meds that you can keep at home so that if it flares up on the weekend you will have meds.  Best of luck to you....

Many of the initial symptoms of both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's are similar so until they do the colonoscopy they can't determine what it is that is bothering you.  It is good that they have started you on some of the meds.  Even if you're not hungry try to eat bland foods like oatmeal, toast, crackers, bananas, etc. and ensure you drink a lot of fluids.  Getting dehydrated is not a pleasant thing to deal with and some of your stomach pain could be from that.  Take care.
