I have GERT and a weak valve in my esophagus, so I am not well informed with knowledge on  ulcerative colitis, however, I can give to you a government website that provides information on all digestive disorders /diseases from A to Z. Go to http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov. On the upcoming webpage, look for  link
on Digestion, and click. The next page lists the digestive disorders/diseases. Scroll down the list until you find UC. If you learn other digestive disorders are linked to UC, find them in the list and read.

UC comes and goes throughout one's life.  Stress is a big cause of additional flares.  However, it is important to not stop your meds without your doctor's blessing.  UC is a very serious disease and you need to do all you can to keep it in remission.
