What does Gender mean to you?

Disney no longer offers gender specific outfits and costumes.

So now little boys can dress up as Tinkerbell and the Fairy god mother with pride.
I guess the expression "boys will be boys and girls will be girls" will soon lose its meaning. So now boys can be girls and girls can be boys.

I remember when I was a kid and found out the original Peter Pan was a woman, it creeped me out.

When I was in Thailand I noticed that boys who wanted to dance in dances that only had female roles, dressed the boys up in those female costumes. Nobody batted an eye.

Personally, I think the reason there have been gender specific clothing is that most people don't like to admit that we aren't all that different after all.

I'm with Brice, this is a non-issue. There are too many real important things to be concerned about to care who wears what.

It's all about $$$$; Disney doesn't give a hoot whether your kid chooses whatever costume, they just want 'em sold.

You know what is so funny about religious freedom?  Many Christians don't allow that for others.  They think their beliefs have to be the absolute authority and we should make laws based on their personal faith.  That frustrates me.

I see a great amount of intolerance that people use their church to support.  That frustrates me too.

I really agree that there are so many things that are of greater importance than children's costumes or EVEN kids who decide they love the clothing of the opposite sex and wear it the rest of their lives.

More power to Disney for realizing we are not all the same.

Well, I am a Christian and I somewhat resent being told that God is make believe and I need to get my head out of my butt, but everyone is entitled to their belief... as President Obama reiterated on Wed with the Pope... We do have religious liberty in the United States, even as his DOJ has lawsuits against, at least, 15 different Christian entities... That, however, is off topic.

The topic is children's costumes and the whole idea behind Halloween is to dress up so nobody knows who you are... As I've been told, regarding numerous other things - there are more important things to worry about than what costumes kids are wearing for Halloween or whether Disney is selling non-gender specific clothing...

I never claimed to be an Atheist but Agnostic. Once I came to terms and accepted The Bible is not The Infallible Word of God, it is easier for me to believe there is something on the other side. I hope your still around to red this. As far as the Bible goes, it has some precious Gems. I pray that what ever is on the other side helps me to “Eat the Hay and Leave the Stubble”

Kids have been wearing "other" costumes since I was a kid me 40 years ago, and its a problem now?  Christians need to pull their heads out of their a$$es worry about their make believe god.

Here's what makes me mad.  Nobody was ever mad about girls wearing the official Mickey Mouse costume while working in the Disney Park or attractions.  How come?  How dare a girl wear a costume obviously made for a man!  These girls will want to vote, then drive, then step out of the kitchen.

Why is anyone taking frigging costumes up as an issue?  Are you serious???  Costumes???  With all of the REAL problems, people are going to bother themselves with costumes?  Jesus Christ....

Personally, I feel like it's all a bunch of PC bull$hit.

Anyone, besides the LGBT community that's on board with this, is cat-whipped.

Grow a set, people. Stand up for what this country was build upon... a solid foundation of ethics, morals, Christian values, and heterosexuality (we probably wouldn't be having this convo right now if everyone that originally landed at Plymouth Rock was gay).

Getting very tired of the PC-Police telling me what I should and shouldn't think. You respect my opinion, and I'll respect the fact that you're dead wrong about yours.

Fair enough?

The article specifically mentions Disney selling non-gender specific Halloween costumes and Halloween is for dressing up to be anything you want to be, so I say go for it... beyond that, who cares anyway?  We've been dressing our little girls in jeans for years and letting them play with toy tractors and other things that are typically designated for boys, so why can't boys dress up like Tinkerbell and play with dolls if they want to?

Beyond that, what difference should it make to Disney who buys their clothes?  They shouldn't even have to make an announcement like that because they're making money off the products no matter who they're bought for...  If I bought a Minnie Mouse dress or a Mother Goose bag for my grandson, it's nobody's business... after all, I'd buy a Mickey T-shirt or a Harley bag for my granddaughter and nobody would think twice about it...

I think the phrase that Kids can be who they are is probably the best philosophy and society doesn't always dictate that.  My opinion.

Great!  Not a big deal to me at all.  By the way, when my oldest was 3, he would dress up in things like tutu's, a dress, carried a purse around the house.  He had a Ballerina Barbie he picked out for himself.  My rugged and very manly husband took him to the hardware store as he danced around the store with his Barbie.  So, fast forward.  He's all boy, doing boy things, definitely masculine.  Had I suppressed his joyful expression of what he thought was fun at the time as an innocent toddler---  I think the kid would have hang ups.

And I'm also not sure about your point since you say they don't sell gender specific things and then go on to talk about Tinkerbell and the Fairy God Mother.  Do you mean that they don't try to shame young children for wanting these costumes and it is okay with them if any sex buys and wears them?
