I didn't hear of any of these....

http://www.officer.com/features/honoring-the-fallen

This is why cops use the tactics they do.  Didn't hear one word of any of these on the news.  Not all of the cops in these couple of hundred stories where shot or stabbed, so I guess they had that going for them, eh?

Shot at traffic stops, working a security detail, serving a warrant....  I guess cops deserve to die because they would have the gall to make a traffic stop.

us v.s. them..... I wonder how a cop would derive such a concept?

I know and understand choke holds.

Here's my deal and its been the same from the get go.  IF its proven that the hold was outside of the realms of standard operating procedure, the cop should be held accountable for that....  But the choke didn't kill him.  He had a pulse long after the choke was released.

If this guy were not an issue, had not been an issue, there would not have been a problem.  This is not some innocent black man standing in the streets.  He was a known problem.... but none of that matters?

Why shouldn't Garner be held accountable for his actions, he was breaking the law and resisted arrest, he knew what he was doing, after 11 arrest for the same thing he should, he made the choice to break the law, he made the choice to resist, do the consequences seem to much, yes but he made the decision to force the police to do their job and enforce the laws set forth by the people, not the cops, they were doing what they had to do because Garner forced them to, he could have went peacefully but HE chose to resist

" What kind of "better training" do you suggest?"

This is a link to an excellent discussion on the subject I listened to on NPR yesterday. The guests include an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy, a PI officeer from the International Union of Police Associations, and a police psychologist at the West Palm Beach Police Department among others. The transcript is too long to cut and paste here, but is well worth a listen or a read for what I consider to be a well balanced discussion on the subject. Ignore these other links as I'm sure they will be considered way to far 'Left'.

"Police officers nationwide have resorted to this game of semantics, claiming that the maneuver in the photo above, in which Pantaleo’s arm was wrapped around Garner’s neck while applying pressure, was not a choke hold but actually a carotid restraint; otherwise known as a blood choke hold.

The common carotid arteries are the arteries that supply the head and neck with oxygenated blood. The carotid restraint or blood choke, is supposed to be applied in such a manner as to prevent the blood from flowing through these arteries to the head, in an attempt to render the subject unconscious. The main difference between an air choke hold and a carotid restraint is that one prevents blood flow and the other prevents airflow.

In an ideal setting an officer may be able to differentiate between the two. However, in the above image, we can clearly see that the forearm of Pantaleo is applying heavy pressure to the the upper airway (trachea, larynx or laryngopharynx), of Garner, hence interfering with his breathing, hence the statement, “I can’t breathe,” hence the New York City Medical Examiner’s office ruling the official cause of death a homicide due to “compression of neck, chest and positioning during restraint by police.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/03/ramsey-orta-indictment-eric-garner_n_6264746.html

"On Wednesday, a Staten Island grand jury decided not to return an indictment for the police officer who put Eric Garner, an unarmed black man, in a chokehold shortly before his death. A different Staten Island grand jury was less sympathetic to Ramsey Orta, however, the man who filmed the entire incident.

In August, less than a month after filming the fatal July 17 encounter in which Daniel Pantaleo and other NYPD police officers confronted Garner for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes, a grand jury indicted Orta on weapons charges stemming from an arrest by undercover officers earlier that month.

Police alleged that Orta had slipped a .25 caliber handgun into a teenage accomplice's waistband outside a New York hotel. Orta testified that the charges were falsely mounted by police in retaliation for his role in documenting Garner's death......."

You can nitpick the difference between carotid restraint and chokehold, but with four other officers backing him up, you'd think some other non-violent resolution could have been reached,

"Call me Pollyanna, but I believe even the police involved in these latest incidents were not 'evil' per se. Merely weak humans who should have had better training or been working in a different profession."

I don't consider an officer fighting for his life, or one who is doing his job as being a weak human being who should have had better training or been working in a different profession.  Maybe things could have been done differently in both situations, but we don't know that for a fact, because none of us were there; all we know is what the hyped up media wants us to know.

The bottom line, though, is that 2 grand juries have spoken... does that not stand for anything anymore in this country? Apparently, there are too many who think our legal system is a joke.

I think we're going to be seeing more of the troubled patterns we're seeing today, when we have so many people standing up in support of criminals who are resisting arrest and against our law enforcement officers, who, for the most part, are risking their lives every day to protect our communities and businesses. It's pretty sad and I really don't blame the police officers for fighting back.

In my experience, good cops are the rule rather than the exception and I agree that the 'media', hungry for readership/listeners/viewers plays a major role in the dysfunction currently making the headlines.
However, we can't turn a blind eye to what is happening as the result of a weapons/gear industry that was cranked up to fill the needs of two major wars and their subsequent policing of a hostile populace. These companies have to have someplace to sell their products and they have strong voices in Washington thanks to 'Citizens United'. It speaks volumes to me that you can dress a person in riot gear, train them to 'subdue' crowds, jack them up on adrenaline and fear, and yet (in the vast majority of cases) their humanity and all the good reasons they had for becoming cops in the first place, wins out.
Call me Pollyanna, but I believe even the police involved in these latest incidents were not 'evil' per se. Merely weak humans who should have had better training or been working in a different profession.
There are troubling patterns emerging in the culture/training of today's law enforcement, and I believe much of it comes from the top down and is the result of increasingly unequal distribution of wealth.

It is all because of the preceived racism that is stirred up by the media and other race baiters. As I have said time and time again they make a big deal out of a WHITE police officer doing his/her job and one person dies, yet they ignore the genocide going on in there own community.

Black on black death..why because of lack of jobs, because of lack of education, because lack of a family structure.
