School shooter speaks out

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/12/school-violence-andy-williams-2001-santana-high-shooting_n_2856741.html?1363107560&icid=maing-grid7|maing13|dl17|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D284536

I couldn't get the audio to play through this computer because my staff has done some wonderful things to the computer this past weekend.

After reading the article, I got the impression that the kid may have been bullied.  (The guy mentioned missing school and coming home with bruises.)  We know that a lot of the cases of teen suicide comes from bullying, but I am trying to find the thin line between the kid who shoots up a school and the kid who commits suicide.

The guy said something in the article along the lines of "wanting to be dead".... So why do this rather than committing suicide?  (I am not advocating suicide or school shootings, for the record.)  Perhaps there is some feeling of revenge?  But with that, the end result is that this guy is still alive.  He didn't get his wish of being dead.  Karma?  I don't know....

I do kind of understand "not being able to talk about it".  I've known a lot of people with issues who didn't have the ability to "talk about it" until well after the fact.  Such drastic measures....  I don't understand it.

There surely something to be learned with this guy, but it is just a tiny piece of the puzzle.  Not every massacre has the same finger prints, so to speak, but bullying seems to be a common, reoccurring theme for suicide or acting out.

I wonder though, how much time is being spent studying this guy and his story?  Is he divulging everything?  I don't know... It seems a guy like this would be a valuable source of information.

I'd like to know more about this guys background.  The article says that he was from a single parent (father) home.  Does any of this have to do with that or the relationship he had (didn't have) with his mother?

You know, I am reluctant to blame violent video games.  I think it's applicable in some cases but not every case.  I think kids that grow up in a stable environment know what is real v.s. fantasy and I think those kids fully know the ramifications of committing such acts.  Societal issues probably come into play.  The media does all it can to sensationalize acts like these massacres.

I understand it in a way, when I think of an ostracized boy unconnected to humanity whose culture is violent video games and media that glorifies vengeance and bloodshed. I understand in that context how a dsiturbed and immature mind might go that way.
Certainly do not condone it by any stretch of the imagination but my hope is that with his help the medical/psych. establishment may gain a deeper understanding on the behaviors that lead to these acts.
